We’re generally remaining healthier & fitter for longer, so the upper age limit for enlistment as an Army Reserve Soldier with ZERO prior service experience is being raised to 48 years of age (from 01 October 2026).

If you can meet current entry medical & fitness criteria then this could be your next call to action!

You can create an Army Jobs account NOW, and select an appropriate role in just a few days time when the changes take effect. But don’t delay your research and fact finding. 🔎

Oh, and also don’t be fooled into thinking that because we’re an Army Reserve Engineering Unit, that experience in that field is required! We have Butchers and Bakers and Candlestick makers (and more) amongst our ranks. 🫡

Today is a reminder that looking after our mental health isn’t just about looking after ourselves – it’s about looking out for the people around us too.

A friend might say they’re “fine” when they’re struggling. A colleague might be quieter than usual. Someone you served with might have withdrawn. Sometimes, all it takes is one person noticing and asking:

ARE YOU REALLY OK?

You don’t have to have all the answers. You don’t have to be a mental health expert. Just start the conversation. Listen without judgement, give them your time, and let them know they don’t have to face things alone.

Head Up is a charity that supports serving personnel, veterans and reservists across the UK Armed Forces community. Their approach is about prevention as much as intervention. They give people the time, space, knowledge, and practical tools to build healthier minds and lives.
