Please be advised that a road closure has been scheduled within your area, as detailed below.

Location: B1065 Skate's Hill, Glemsford - from Lower Road heading 400m North

Date & Time: Friday 8 May 2026 (8pm-3am)

Please note that while the road closure times are as stated above, it's likely that the teams on site will not be present for the full duration. All works will be carried out within the timeframe stated.

Reason for Closure: Gully cleansing

Access Arrangements: Access and egress will be maintained where safe and possible to do so. Please speak to a member of staff on site. Through traffic will need to follow the diversion route In place.

Diversion Route: A1092, B1066 and vice versa.

We apologise for the short notice provided for these works, this is due to the nature of the works and the road closure application process.

Please help keep our workers safe by driving carefully and slowly through the roadworks. Feedback from our workers shows that too many drivers travel at excessive speed through roadworks. Everybody is entitled to a safe workplace, and our operatives work next to moving traffic and risk injury every day.

Updates regarding this road closure will be available via Suffolk Highways on X and on One.Network.

Sadly we have had some incidents of anti-social behaviour in the village in recent days. Damage caused to Parish Council property has been reported to the Police and it is with regret that repairs will come out of PC funds.

1. The litter bin on the corner of Harpur’s Rd was pushed over (including the cement base).
2. Going through the little footpath from Harpur’s to Fourth Avenue, another litter bin was pushed over. Both bins have been collected by a Parish Council volunteer.
3. A black bin bag of rubbish was thrown up onto the rear roof of the Village Hall, close to the solar panels.
4. In a separate incident a solar panel has been damaged, possibly by a stone. This is the third panel to be damaged since they were installed in January 2025.
5. The Schoolfields playground for younger children has once again been targeted, with chocolate spread containing hazelnuts smeared over several pieces of equipment. This is the second time the playground has been vandalised- in March line marker paint was used.

Councillors would be grateful for any information regarding the bins, the solar panels or the Schoolfield playground incidents.

Update on the Community Litter Pick organised by Greening Glemsford and held on Sunday 29th March 2026:

Thank You so much for the support of 19 adults and 4 children, who collected a total of 23 bags from all over the village, including Park and Hobbs Lanes.
It was mostly sweet & takeaway food wrappers, plastic drink bottles and glass beer/wine/vodka bottles.
Other items - 3 damaged footballs, part of a chair, part of a storage box/firebox, a squashed metal tray, a broken child’s easel, a spade with a broken handle, one football boot, a wooden toy pig with 3 wheels instead of 4, a damaged highways cone and an old car mat.
Sadly, a large amount of litter/fly tipped items were found between the hedge and the fencing alongside the unofficial footpath leading from Shepherds Lane towards the allotments. 4 full bags were collected from that spot alone!

The next Community litter pick will be in October, date tbc.
In the meantime, if you are keen to litter pick regularly please arrange to borrow a litter picking stick and hivis tabard.
Message here and Lesli Tunbridge will get back to you.

PS permission given to use this photo from a litter pick last year.
