Given its status as a key service centre, the Parish Council restyled itself as a Town Council in 2012, gaining no additional powers but repositioning itself as Suffolk’s smallest town. The council owns and maintains a number of the key civic facilities and open spaces in the town including the cemetery and the Nuttery community woodland. The council employs two part-time street wardens and a part

-time cemetery management officer in this regard. It is statutory consultee for local planning applications and supports a wide range of community groups and voluntary organisations, both financially and through partnership working.
