Eden-Rose Coppice Trust Eden-Rose Coppice - Sudbury
Brickmakers Wood - Ipswich

Charity No. 1122514
Using the power of nature to support and help people living with complex health issues whilst transforming urban natural disasters into tranquil woodland for the community. Our Purpose:
• an active, hands-on outdoor educational facility for a wide range of children living with profound learning disabilities, critical needs or behavioural problems
• life and work skills for dis

engaged young people that lead to training and employment opportunities, including running a small skills enterprise cutting and selling wood for fuel.
• opportunities for volunteers to actively support their community providing regeneration of unused land and to develop their own mentoring, volunteering and educational skills.
• a free sanctuary for people living with Cancer or terminal illnesses. Eden-Rose Coppice profoundly affects the lives of people who use it.
• This year 180 children with profound learning disabilities have had their educational experience enriched and, for some, their aspirations dramatically raised.
• As a new venture, 25 long-term unemployed young people who are not in education or training have worked in the wood and contributed to a small business chopping and selling wood gaining confidence and work skills whilst contributing to our sustainability.
• Over 60 volunteers have worked on the site,
• 112 people with terminal illness have had a better quality of life in their final months. This helps them and their families and can reduce demand on public services where the alternative would be medical treatment for depression

A huge thank you to the Self Raising Flowers Ipswich WI group for raising funds for Eden-Rose Coppice Trust.

Support like this helps us continue restoring our woodlands, caring for native wildlife and welcoming people who benefit from time in nature.

We’re incredibly grateful for the kindness and community spirit shown by the group.

It’s wonderful to see local people supporting a local woodland 🌿

Yesterday at Brickmakers Wood we had a lovely moment celebrating our Ipswich volunteers, presenting many of them with their KAVS badges following our charity receiving The King’s Award for Voluntary Service.

You may have seen the news locally — we were incredibly proud to receive this national recognition.

But awards like this belong to the volunteers.

Thank you to every single person who has given their time, care and energy to Eden-Rose Coppice Trust — past and present. 🌿

Nature in action in the wildlife pond at Brickmakers Wood.

It may look brutal but there’s a reason why frogs spawn so much.
Predators and prey sharing the same space is a strong sign that the ECOsystem in the ECOgarden is thriving.

We’ve had a little break from social media, but we’re back with a clip of the wildlife pond in the ECOgardenAt Brickmakers Wood. The pond is only a year and a half old so it’s really wonderful to see so much life.

Volunteer Spotlight: Jayne 🌿

“I became aware of the Eden-Rose Coppice Trust after watching Monty Don’s Big Dreams, Small Spaces and was amazed such a valuable space was so close to my home.

I often walked by with my children and, as I was getting closer to retirement, I spotted a Facebook appeal for volunteers – it seemed like destiny to apply!

Almost four years later, and while dealing with my own cancer health issues, the joy of helping in this wonderful woodland, alongside equally enthusiastic volunteers, for an organisation that is so eco-friendly – and the incredible knowledge that Jo brings – has me looking forward to each Thursday morning. I can enjoy the serenity of an area that I have, in my own very small way, helped to create.” – Jayne 💚

Volunteers like Jayne help us care for this urban woodland, fundraise, and support events – making it possible for our charity to offer nature-based support to people living with illness, isolation and anxiety.

Today’s recognition from The King’s Award for Voluntary Service shines a light on the depth of what volunteers do here. 💚

Our volunteers:
- Transform once-neglected urban areas into thriving woodlands for both wildlife and people.
- Show up for our events, meet-ups, and activities, regardless of the weather.
- Donate their time and share their skills to help us continue this important work.
- And, perhaps most importantly, support each other quietly along the way.

Today's recognition from The King’s Award for Voluntary Service is truly a thank-you to them. We know there are so many more wonderful volunteers than in these pictures, and we thank each and every one of you.

If you'd like to support this work, you can:
