๐Ÿ“ข Big shout out and huge thanks to the team at Nurdle who have worked across the weekend to support council teams with clean-up activity of spilled plastic pellets.

Protecting our coastline remains our priority and great progress is being made.

๐Ÿ“† The clean-up could take a long time due to tides changing. We will soon share information on how people can get involved with the clean-up. For now, we ask people not to handle the pellets. This is so we can monitor how much of the spill has been collected and how much is left to collect.

If you do inadvertently handle any nurdles, remember to wash your hands after, just as you would with any other items of debris you might handle on the beach.

A positive update on the nurdle clean up progress along our coastline ๐ŸŒŠ

What a fantastic day we had at the Westoe Village Fair today โ€“ with the highest number of scores squeezed onto the bird feeding game board ever! ๐Ÿ›

The sun was shining, and it was wonderful to see so many people out enjoying the performances and stalls. We loved chatting with members of the community about our local coastal wildlife, how they can support it, and ways to get more involved. ๐ŸŒž

Thank you to everyone who came to say hello โ€“ we canโ€™t wait to see you again! ๐Ÿ’™

What a fantastic start to the rock pooling season! ๐ŸŒŠ

Our find of the day came from this brilliant young rockpooler who discovered a Bloody Henry sea starโ€ฆ or should we say, Patrick, is that you?! โญ๐Ÿ˜‚

In partnership with the National Trust, we welcomed a fantastic group to explore the rocky shore, learning how to identify local species while always putting the welfare of the animals and their habitats first.

Curious to learn more about our amazing intertidal wildlife and how to help protect it? Head over to the National Trust Souter events page and book onto one of our four upcoming FREE sessions this summer!

Weโ€™re saddened to report that a significant section of fencing and signage at the Nesting Project site at Jackie's beach, was deliberately removed and burned in an antisocial behaviour (ASB) arson incident on Friday.

As you can see, parts of the protective fencing have been destroyed, leaving the area more vulnerable to disturbance and trampling. This is particularly concerning as we are currently monitoring two pairs of birds showing active nesting behaviour on site.

Despite this setback, we remain hopeful. These birds are resilient, and we hope they will continue their nesting attempts.

On a more positive note, this Monday our team, alongside dedicated Nesting Project volunteers and Becky from Coast Sunderland, worked quickly to repair the damage. Together we reinstalled sections of fencing, replaced signage, and cleared away debris from the incident.

Just as the wildlife shows resilience, so too does our incredible community of volunteers and supporters. Together, we will keep protecting this space for our nesting birds! ๐Ÿฅš๐Ÿฃ

We would like to extend all our thanks to everyone who helped during the emergency repairs, reported the damage, and continues to support the project. Your kindness and community spirit make a real difference and together, we will keep moving forward ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿงก
