Sunderland Labour Group has elected a new leadership team as we begin the next chapter of standing up for communities across our city and holding Reform to account.

We are proud to introduce Councillor Fiona Tobin as Leader of the Sunderland Labour Group – making history as the first woman to lead the group. Fiona said:

“The priority over the coming year is straightforward: rebuild trust, reconnect with communities and prove through hard work that we are worth voting for. We will continue to stand up for residents, challenging decisions and offering credible alternatives for Sunderland’s future as we fight for the city we love”.

Joining Fiona as Deputy Leader is Councillor Brandon Feeley. Fiona and Brandon bring a wealth of experience, determination and a strong commitment to delivering for residents across Sunderland and will play a key role in ensuring residents' voices are heard and represented.
Brandon said:

"I am honoured to have been elected Deputy Leader of the Sunderland Labour Group.

I am grateful for the trust my colleagues have placed in me. This is a responsibility I take seriously, and I look forward to supporting Fiona in holding Reform to account and standing up for residents across Sunderland, Houghton, Hetton and Washington."

Together our Labour Group we will continue fighting for the people of Sunderland and championing the values that matter most to our communities.

Reform UK banning the Pride flag from City Hall is pathetic culture war politics designed to divide people and distract from the real issues affecting people across our city.

Singling out areas of the community is designed to be divisive. Sunderland is a proud, welcoming and decent city where people look out for one another and where all our communities matter.

Flying the Pride flag at City Hall showed the world that all people are welcome, valued and respected. Reform are trying to make LGBTQ+ people feel unwelcome and calling it “patriotism.”

Sunderland is better than this toxic attempt at division.

We stand in full solidarity with our LGBTQ+ communities and friends. You deserve to feel safe and respected everywhere.

Love is love ❤️

The gravy train is in the station!

Despite pledging to fight the cost of living crisis on their election leaflets, Sunderland Reform’s first decision in leadership has been to balloon their number of cabinet roles.
Are they taking vital money out of local services to pay for the extra cabinet roles? They refused to answer when questioned what the amount will be.

Instead of investing in frontline local services, it looks like Reform are choosing to fund pay days for their councillors.
