Supporting children to start school or nursery confidently starts early.

Our Getting Ready for School / Nursery sessions at our Best Start Sunderland Family Hubs offer practical, hands-on support for families, helping children develop key skills such as communication, independence and social confidence.

Sessions include stay-and-play activities and access to advice from partners including early years, health and SEND services.

The first hour of each session is aimed at those which children starting nursery (2–3 years). The Second hour of each session is for pre-schoolers (3–4 years)

📅 Upcoming sessions:
• Tuesday 30 June, 10.30am–12.30pm – Winnibell Family Hub (SR1 2HS)
• Tuesday 7 July, 9.30–11.30am – Rainbow Family Hub (NE37 2AE)
• Thursday 9 July, 1–3pm – Coalfields Family Hub (DH5 9NE)
• Monday 13 July, 9.30–11.30am – Thorny Close Family Hub (SR3 4JQ)
• Thursday 16th July, 9.30–11.30am – Bunny Hill Family Hub (SR5 4BW)

PREPARING FOR LIFE EVENT.

Together for Children are planning a pilot "Preparing for Life" Information, Advice and Guidance event for young people in Year 10 and above, taking place on Monday 29th June 2026 between 1pm and 6.30 pm at Bede Tower, Burdon Road, Sunderland.

1:00pm - 3:00pm - for schools to visit.
2:30pm - 3:30pm - for practitioners .
3:30pm - 6:30pm - for any young person in year 10 and above.

The event aims to support young people to better understand what is available to them as they take the next steps of their life.

There will be a range of services providing information covering Further Education, Careers, Training, Health and Wellbeing, Community Inclusion and Independence.
