A big thank you to Gentoo for cutting the grass and litter picking around the Southwick Road area. 👍

This is a main route from the Wheatsheaf towards Southwick Road, and rubbish can quickly build up, with residents also raising concerns about vermin.

We’ve raised these issues with Gentoo several times, so it’s good to see action being taken and the area now firmly on their agenda.

If you spot any further issues, please report them. 👍

⚠️ Swan Street College wall - further deterioration. ⚠️

We’ve reported the wall at Swan Street College to the council again.

This is something we first raised last year when the problem happened. After we pushed for action, the area was fenced off, but the wall now looks like it’s in a very dangerous state and speaking to local residents and parents, they are extremely concerned. 🚧

With Grange Park kids due back at school, this needs sorting. The fencing means they’re being pushed out onto the road when walking to school, which is dangerous enough, but there’s also a genuine concern about the wall collapsing. ⚠️

We’ve asked the council to take this up with the owner of the college site and get the situation dealt with properly.

We’ll keep on at it until it’s sorted. 💪

It’s taken months of pressure from residents to get to this point. People have been worried sick about this, and rightly so.

As you can see in the comments, we asked back in March and June for this application to come before the Planning Committee.

Now the local members are saying the same thing we’ve been saying for months. I suspect the pressure from residents has had a lot to do with that, and hopefully it means the council will now pull the application.

If it does, it’ll be a massive victory for the community and a huge relief for residents who have been fighting this for months.

This is what happens when people stick together and keep the pressure on.

Let’s keep going until it’s done. 🤞✊🏼

Looks like we’ve finally woken the council up! 🗣️

We’ve been challenging this application for months and getting a handwritten petition signed, running the online petition, speaking to residents and raising their concerns.

Yet now, after the video went far and wide and the pressure has really started to build, we’re hearing that the local councillors are preparing to come out against it, rather than just a cursory email 🙄

If that’s the case, that’s good. The more pressure on the council to pull this application, the better.

But let’s not rewrite what’s happened. We’ve been doing this for months. Where was the support then?

I’m sure the social media posts will be along shortly to explain their position and their involvement. People can make their own minds up.

For us, this has always been about getting the application pulled and standing up for local residents.

If they pull it, we’ll call that a victory.

The pressure stays on.

Now I’m aware I was reported en masse after my last video which resulted in the page being taken down. Well here is another one and update on the HMO application. We won’t be silenced 🗣️

I’ve been speaking with council officers and raising residents’ concerns about the proposed 18-bedroom HMO on Crozier Street/Newcastle Road.

The main concerns I’ve put forward are around parking and safety, particularly given how built-up the area already is.

I’m pleased that, after the work and lobbying we’ve been doing, the highways team has now submitted a statement which appears to back up a lot of the concerns we’ve raised.

We’ll keep making the case on behalf of local residents.
