What we’ll do...

We’ll confirm it’s us. If you see a Sunderland City Council or SunderlandUK account online, you can check it’s us. We’ll list our social media accounts on our website here www.sunderland.gov.uk

We’ll listen We’ll read all messages and respond to

them, providing help and support, or by sign posting you to key information on our website. If there a problem, we’ll look to flag-up with the most relevant part of the organisation. We’re keen to hear from you. We’ll treat each message with the politeness you’d expect if you were dealing with us face-to-face or on the telephone. What we’d like you to do in return...

We’d like you to be polite. We know that sometimes things don’t go to plan and you’ll want to flag things up with us. But do remember, we’re human and the person monitoring the social media account is only trying to help. So are other people who use social media. We’d like you not be anti-social. We won’t tolerate swearing, threats or abuse online just as we don’t offline, any posts or comments that a defamatory or slanderous against an individual or those that will cause offence. We won’t deal with your query on social media. We’ll direct you to other channels instead. We’d like you not to be personal. If you’ve a complaint to make we’ll look into it. We’ll point you towards our complaints page https://www.sunderland.gov.uk/complaints

We’d like you not to spam or advertise. Our social media channels aren’t the place for followers to advertise. Making the same points over and over - otherwise known as spamming - isn’t for our social media. You’ll be better off contacting us another way so we can look into the issue for you. We’d like you to not over-share. If you’ve got an issue we’ll happily look into it. But be careful not to post private information about yourself or others. Of course, most of the time social media works fine but on the rare occasion where you don’t stick to the house rules, we use profanity filters which automatically hide offensive posts or comments, and we reserve the right to delete offending content and block you from contacting us through that route. We also reserve the right to contact the police

💡Do you have an idea for an event that could bring people together in your local community?

Sunderland City Council's Festival & Events Fund 2026/27 is now open, with 💷 grants of £100 to £5,000 available to help local organisations bring new and existing ideas to life.

This round's theme is Re-Imagine! We're looking for creative ideas that reimagine Sunderland's places, spaces, traditions and communities. ✨❤️

💡 That could mean bringing an overlooked space to life, putting a fresh spin on a local tradition, creating a brand-new cultural experience, or simply finding a new way to bring your community together.

📍 Your event must take place in Sunderland and be open to the public to be eligible, but don't worry if it's not festival-based. We welcome applications for all kinds of community events.

Last week the Safer Hendon team were on patrol throughout the area and found two separate deposits of household waste in the back lanes of Cairo Street and Tower Street West 😡

Placing waste out in this manner is unsightly, attracts vermin and negatively impacts the local community🚫

Each deposit was investigated by Community Safety Specialists and as a result two individuals have received fixed penalty notices for depositing the waste in the back lanes❕

Residents are encouraged to report any incidents of environmental crime to the council to help tackle this behaviour and help keep our community clean. Please report any issues to by calling 01915205550 or visiting www.Sunderland.gov.uk/Report-it

For more information on disposing of household waste in Sunderland visit www.sunderland.gov.uk/householdwaste
