Sunderland Labour Group has elected a new leadership team as we begin the next chapter of standing up for communities across our city and holding Reform to account.

We are proud to introduce Councillor Fiona Tobin as Leader of the Sunderland Labour Group – making history as the first woman to lead the group. Fiona said:

“The priority over the coming year is straightforward: rebuild trust, reconnect with communities and prove through hard work that we are worth voting for. We will continue to stand up for residents, challenging decisions and offering credible alternatives for Sunderland’s future as we fight for the city we love”.

Joining Fiona as Deputy Leader is Councillor Brandon Feeley. Fiona and Brandon bring a wealth of experience, determination and a strong commitment to delivering for residents across Sunderland and will play a key role in ensuring residents' voices are heard and represented.
Brandon said:

"I am honoured to have been elected Deputy Leader of the Sunderland Labour Group.

I am grateful for the trust my colleagues have placed in me. This is a responsibility I take seriously, and I look forward to supporting Fiona in holding Reform to account and standing up for residents across Sunderland, Houghton, Hetton and Washington."

Together our Labour Group we will continue fighting for the people of Sunderland and championing the values that matter most to our communities.

The latest batch of Mandelson Files have exposed that Labour MPs have no plans - they just look for new ways to tax us all.

You can’t tax your way to growth.

Are you a pub landlord who’s worked hard to build a pub local people love?

Bad luck, because Labour are planning to hit your pub with even higher business rates.

Whilst Labour hate the British pub, Conservatives will scrap business rates entirely for thousands of local pubs.

Too much of it has already been lost - we need to defend our heritage in Sunderland.

Good morning everyone, happy Saturday.

Whilst many of you are probably planning a relaxing weekend, I’m going to ask something of you that requires a little bit of effort.

I need you to get passionate, maybe a little mad but definitely motivated.

The heritage of Sunderland is ours. It’s yours and it’s mine. Every single person has a duty to defend it - every element of it.

From the National Glass Centre all the way to Backhouse Park.

Because if we won’t, who else will?

SEA VIEW ROAD

The following issues were part of my work as a ward Councillor prior to the recent elections. I thought they may be of interest so any anticipated progress could be monitored.

1/. Sea View Road to be designated as having a 20mph speed limit, with roads humps to be installed subject to Council consultation with residents living close by. I had circulated this information with a personal letter.
2/. The small section of highway from The Sycamores to Ryhope Road, is to be resurfaced as part of the 2026/27 schedule. This follows-on from recent work further up Sea View Road that also saw more road resurfacing take place.
3/. I requested that a larger litter bin was installed on Sea View Road to replace the current small one which is, in my opinion, inadequate. I had not received a response from the Council before the May elections.
