We’re recruiting a Digital Systems Administrator to help manage and optimise the digital systems that support Culture House and the wider Creative Smart City Hub Library services.

This role works across Spektrix, WordPress, Artifax, and other key digital platforms, ensuring ticketing, website content, event scheduling, and customer engagement are accurate, integrated and running smoothly. If you’re highly organised, confident navigating multiple systems, and proactive in finding solutions, this could be a great fit.

📚 We’re opening our doors on 12 September and just a week later, on Saturday 19 September, you can be one of the first to experience Culture House at our very first author event in the new building.

In partnership with New Writing North, Northern Bookshelf Live brings bestselling Northern authors Robert Rutherford, Sarah Mellor and Brian Groom to Culture House for a crime panel; a lively discussion exploring the colourful history of the British Isles; and relaxed book signings with Featherbed Books. It’s a lovely way to meet the authors and fellow book lovers, and spend a few hours in our beautiful new space.

One ticket gives you access to both events, plus refreshments.

Audrey Amiss - Kitchen Sink Realism, the inaugural exhibition in Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art’s new home at Culture House Sunderland

Charting the artistic journey from her formative years in Sunderland through to her final years in Clapham, South London, Kitchen Sink Realism brings together previously unseen paintings, drawings, and archival material, offering a rare glimpse into the artist and her incredible archive.

💫 There’s still time to get involved in our Series of Surprises – proposals close on 31 August.

We’re looking for people to help shape 100 creative moments across 100 consecutive days at Culture House Sunderland. Each surprise will be unexpected, engaging and open to everyone, offering a reason for people to return again and again.

If you’re an artist, performer, maker, community group, hobbyist, first‑time creative, local resident, school or college, we’d love to hear your idea. A small fee is available to support delivery of successful commissions.

We’ve been out and about at Family Hubs across Sunderland throughout the summer, and this morning we joined the final Summer Fayre of the holidays at Winnibell Best Start Family Hub.

We were chatting with families about Culture House opening and running a fun under‑the‑sea craft activity 🐠✨

There was loads happening across the Hub too – face painting, raffles, and even a visit from Chase from Paw Patrol – all adding to a brilliant morning of family fun.
