With the weather warming up this weekend, people may be tempted to get into the water ☀️

Would you know what to do if you saw someone struggling? Remember:

Tombstoning isn’t worth the risk 🚫

Jumping or diving from piers, cliffs, jetties, or bridges can cause serious injury or be fatal.

Submerged rocks, shallow water and strong currents aren’t always visible. Once you’re in the water, getting out can be difficult.

Instead, choose a registered coasteering provider, where you’ll have the right training and equipment for a safe, enjoyable experience ✅

In an emergency at the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

🚨 Training Night 🚨

Last night our Coastguard Rescue Officers took part in further realistic training designed to test the skills we rely on during real emergencies.

The scenario involved a horse rider who had been thrown from their horse, with suspected spinal injuries somewhere in our search area. Using our search planning and team coordination skills, Coastguard Rescue Officers were quickly deployed to locate the casualty.

Once the casualty was found, the team moved into casualty care, using HM Coastguard casualty care check cards alongside the knowledge and skills gained through our extensive CERRC (Coastguard Emergency Response Rescue Course) training. The casualty was assessed, treated and carefully stabilised before being safely extricated from the scene, collecting all emergency medical equipment in case their condition worsened, while maintaining spinal precautions throughout.

Exercises like this highlight the high level of training and professionalism expected of Coastguard Rescue Officers across the UK. Our teams train regularly to ensure we are prepared for a wide variety of incidents, both on the coast and inland.

All of our CROs are highly skilled volunteers who commit significant time to training so that when the pager goes off, we are ready to respond.

⏰ HM Coastguard teams are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year — ready to search, ready to save.

A great effort from everyone involved last night.

🚨 Multi‑Agency Training at RAF Holbeach

Yesterday Sutton Bridge Coastguard Rescue Team, HM Coastguard Skegness HM Coastguard Wrangle took part in a large‑scale multi‑agency exercise at RAF Holbeach, a live weapons training range used for fast‑jet operations.

The scenario involved a aircraft on the range, a fire, and a search for missing aircrew. Working under JESIP principles, it was a great opportunity to operate alongside Lincolnshire Police, Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue East Midlands Ambulance Service, Royal Air Force, Landmarc Solutions, local authority and emergency planning representatives.

HM Coastguard led the exercise, deploying search teams across the range, locating the simulated casualties, providing radio comms, casualty assessment and care, and safely extricating them to a designated RVP for handover to medical teams.

Fantastic weather, excellent teamwork, and valuable shared learning across all agencies. And for a day on a weapons range, it’s fair to say the only thing that really blew us away was the quality of the joint working.

First call out of the month.

🆘 Incident 🆘 # 15 of 2026

Friday 6th March 19.00hrs

The team was tasked to a vehicle in the water at Well Creake Road, Outwell, along with the Fire and Rescue Service, HM Coastguard Sutton Bridge and HM Coastguard Wrangle.

The team was stood down en route.

You may well think that this is a long way off our ‘patch’, as did we, and certainly not on the coast, but for us to be called out to water incidents in this area is not unusual.

If you see someone in difficulty along the coast, ring 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
