More problem addresses closed down by Hucknall Neighbourhoods Team

It's been a busy day for officers on Hucknall NPT who have shut down a further 2 problem houses in the area. An address on Lime Tree Road was made subject of a closure order at Magistrates Court and another address on Story Gardens was closed.

PS Mann who spearheads the Team explains 'The address at Lime Tree Road was subject to a recent warrant and prior to that we received a number of complaints about dealing and ASB. Former PCSO and now aspiring PC Mikey Regan put in the hard yards collecting the resident surveys and intelligence and was able to put forward a case to the Magistrates who agreed that the evidence presented was overwhelming. I've said it before, I take no pleasure in taking away the roof over someone's head, however if you are allowing your property to be used for drug supply and causing repeated ASB, if your behaviour is making lives a misery for those who live nearby then you will lose it'

PS Mann Continues 'after we closed down the address on Lime Tree some of the team went down to Story Gardens to address an issue we've been having at that location. Upon arriving there we turfed out the people in that address, none of whom were on the tenancy, and with the help of our partners in Ashfield District Council we were able to secure the property and change the locks. We also seized a problem vehicle whilst we were there for good measure. I am determined to make Hucknall a safer and more pleasant place to live for the good people of the town, for the people who just want to go about their lives and do good. Male shoplifter arrested and recalled to prison yesterday morning

Female arrested this morning for failing to appear at Magistrates Court and this afternoon a male shoplifter was arrested

Particular praise to our Police Community Support Officer's who sighted these wanted persons and quickly detained them until the arrival of a police officer

PCSO Walker has only recently joined the Hucknall NPT and he detained two of the above wanted persons, a really promising start and we will continue to quickly detain, arrest and process those who choose to commit crime in Hucknall

A collaborative approach was used yesterday in the Hucknall Town Centre with police officers from the Ashfield Neighbourhood Policing Team, Modern Slavery Team and Organised Immigration Crime Unit for Nottinghamshire Police visiting a number of retail premises on High Street and nearby areas.

The operation was to target Organised Immigration Crime Activity.

A number of officers from the Immigration department were also present to support the operation that took place.

A number of multi-agency visits to areas of Hucknall, Kirkby and Sutton will be conducted to disrupt the illegal activities that any of the business premises may be involved in and we will deal with any risky subjects linked to them.

A prolific shoplifter was arrested yesterday morning on Ogle Street, Hucknall on the entrance to the footpath that meets up to Brook Street

The male well known to the Hucknall Neighbourhood Policing Team was detained and arrested by PC Reddish who was on foot patrol at the time in the area

The male was a suspect for seven incidents of theft from shop at various locations across the local area

A man and a woman allowed a violent offender to hide in their loft following a knife attack.

Kurt Horton and Tracey Hoff let James Pedley shelter at the home they were living in in Sutton-in-Ashfield following his vicious assault on a man.

The victim suffered serious injuries after being stabbed repeatedly by Pedley when the pair agreed to meet in Morvern Avenue, Sutton-in-Ashfield.

We were called to the scene around 1pm on 11 October 2025 after a passer-by reported a man was being stabbed.

Our officers found the victim, a man aged in 40s, lying on the floor and he was taken to hospital for emergency surgery.

An investigation was launched and a trawl of CCTV footage and other inquiries identified 41-year-old Pedley as a suspect.

Two days later we tracked him down to an address in Dalestorth Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield, where Kurt Horton and Tracey Hoff were living.

Hoff let us into the house but denied knowing where Pedley was.

After a search Pedley was found hiding under loft insulation, between floor beams, behind hatches which could only have been locked by another person.

Pedley, Hoff and Horton, who had arrived back at he property a short time later, were all arrested and clothing worn by Pedley on the day of the attack was found inside.

Pedley, of Elder Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield, was found guilty of committing grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place following a trial and was jailed for a total of 14 years on 27 March.

At Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday (9 June), Horton, aged 34, of Sherwood Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield, was jailed for 16 months.

Thirty-seven-year-old Hoff, of Newcastle Street, Huthwaite, was given a 12-month jail sentence suspended for 18 months.

Both previously pleaded guilty to assisting an offender, while Horton also admitted a Bail Act offence.

Detective Constable Ryan Lambert said: "By allowing Pedley to hide at this address, Hoff and Horton were committing a very serious offence.

"Pedley had gone on the run after his brutal attack and both these two offenders knew they were sheltering a dangerous man who we were actively searching for.

"I'm pleased that, like Pedley, they have been brought to justice and hope this sends a message to anyone prepared to assist an offender."

A man who r***d a vulnerable young woman he met in a Nottinghamshire Park has been jailed.

Sheraz Malik, now aged 28, met the girl on Sutton Lawn, Sutton-in-Ashfield, on the evening of Sunday 29 June 2025.

The victim, who was 18 at the time of the attack, was attacked after she was introduced by a friend to Malik and a group of other older men.

Birmingham Crown Court heard last year how she was first r***d by another member of the group, before being led by Malik to a secluded area and r***d for a second time.

Malik, a Pakistani national, was identified after the arrest of an initial suspect and was later traced to an address in Newcastle.

After his arrest on 18 July Malik gave no comment answers in two subsequent police interviews including when challenged about damning DNA evidence linking him to the victim.

During his trial he claimed to have had consensual s*x with the victim.

The jury, however, rejected his account and in January this year convicted him of two counts of r**e. He was cleared of a third count of r**e.

Malik appeared at the same venue today (Thursday 11 June) and was given an extended 14 year sentence - 10 years in custody and four on extended licence.

Detective Inspector Nicole Milner said: “This remains a complex and demanding investigation, and one that continues to be a priority for Nottinghamshire Police as we pursue our enquiries to locate and arrest a further suspect.

“Above all, my thoughts are with the victim, whose courage, resilience and bravery have been evident throughout both the investigation and the criminal justice process.

“Sheraz Malik has today received a significant custodial sentence, reflecting the seriousness of his offending and the profound impact of his actions on the victim.

“I hope this sentence brings the victim a sense of justice and reassurance that Malik no longer poses a threat to our community.”

Today PCSO Collins 6351 and PC 361 Taylor were out on patrol near Butlers Hill Tram Stop when two individuals have decided to have a nice ride over the bridge.

Unfortunately, the pair soon fled when they sighted our officers.🚴

Unable to turn around on the bridge, they dropped their bikes in a panic as PCSO Collins 6351 charged forwards, scaring the socks ( or shoes) off one of the young riders.👟

Just a reminder these vehicles need Tax, MOT and insurance just like the rest of the vehicles on the road no exception if we come across you they will be seized.

On 10th June officers from the Hucknall NPT joined forces with Ashfield District Council to respond to concerns that an occupant of an address in Hucknall may be being cuckooed and that there may be an animal in distress within the address.

With the help of a locksmith to minimise damage to property, entry was quickly gained and thankfully both resident and her dog were located safely. PS Mann (pictured below with ADC's community protection team leader Steve Davis) explains 'Both the Police and the Council had been receiving reports and concerns in relation to the address, the resident and an animal within. We were able to get our heads together and plan a joint visit where entry was gained and we were able to safeguard both the occupant and an animal and steps are now in place to help the individual with her situation.'

PS Mann continues 'cuckooing is a problem at a local and national level, in essence 'Cuckooing is the term that is used to describe how criminal networks take over a property of a vulnerable person and then use the property as a base to deal and prepare drugs. It's a form of exploitation and those involved in cuckooing will use coercion, manipulation or outright force to threaten and intimidate the vulnerable person, if you have any concerns about an individual or address please get in touch with us or ADC'

ANOTHER PROBLEM ADDRESS SHUT DOWN HUCKNALL NPT

On Tuesday 8th June, officers from the Hucknall NPT closed down another problem address on George Street in Hucknall. The address in question had become a magnet for Anti - Social behaviour and reports of drug taking and dealing associated with the address. The premises has been repeatedly damaged by visitors and had become a real eye sore in the area.

The local residents were fed up and we decided to act. PCSO's Mikey Regan and Walters set upon collating evidence, speaking to residents and acting upon intelligence passed by local people and that they had gathered themselves. Information about this address and another on Lime Tree Road in Hucknall were presented to Court who had no hesitation in granting the authority to close this address down. The Lime Tree address in back in Court the week after next and we are hopeful for a double whammy.

PC Mann who supervises the team explains 'Over the last couple of years the Hucknall NPT have closed down several problem addresses, these have been well publicised, and the positive effects on the surrounding neighbourhoods have been clear to see. Its unfortunate that people are still abusing their privilege of being given a house to live in by the council, allowing their address to be used and abused by the same tired old drug users over and over again, seemingly unable to heed warnings about their behaviour. As I've said before, i take no pleasure in taking people houses away from them, but in these cases and in all the other addresses we've closed, my sympathy lies with the people affected nearby, and not with people who cannot take responsibility for their own actions'

PC Mann continues 'I'd like to extend my thanks to PCSO's Mike and Wally for putting the hard yards in and also to the members of public who keep reporting issues. I would urge you to keep on letting us know. There are a couple of other addresses in Hucknall on our radar right now who can expect to get notices put on their door in the near future, you can rest assured we will not rest on our laurels'
