HUCKNALL NPT 👮 🚔

This week Hucknall Beat Team have been busy targeting patrols around the High Street due to receiving more reports of Anti social behaviour; involving youths and the use of e scooters and bikes.

A (PSPO) Public Space Protection Order, covers Hucknall Town Centre and other areas within Hucknall. Under the Anti Social Behaviour Act 2014, the police and council have a series of powers which can be used to try to stop, deter and prevent crime or anti social behaviour from occurring.

This week PCSO NASTASE and PCSO DALTON have seized an e scooter which was being ridden in an anti social manner in Hucknall town centre. The team will continue to seize any E scooters and or Sur-Rons.

Also this week the team have issued a number of DIRECTION TO AN INDIVIDUAL TO MOVE ON tickets, to youths and also adults, directing them to leave the High Street due to them behaving in an anti social manner. The tickets are a notice for an individual aged 10 years and over, that are acting in an anti social manner to leave an area for a period of up to 48 hours. If this is breached this would result in a Fixed Penalty Notice of £100 and a possible fine of £1000 for non payment of the Fixed Penalty Notice.

A good spot by a dog unit officer led to the arrest of a robbery, burglary and shoplifting suspect.

PC Chris Duffy noticed the individual in question while he himself was driving around Mansfield on patrol.

Having seen a man with distinctive tattoos going into a shop, the officer quickly realised he was a suspect in multiple offences.

With only his police dog for company at that point – around 3pm yesterday (7 October) – PC Duffy parked his car and approached the man.

Deploying PD Riddick on his lead, the dog handler then waited for the suspect to come out of the Broxtowe Road-based shop before detaining him outside.

Other Operational Support officers arrived soon after, with the 31-year-old man eventually arrested on suspicion of robbery, burglary, two shop thefts and criminal damage.

The robbery related to a shoplifting incident in Sutton-in-Ashfield on Monday (5 October), whereby staff were reportedly threatened with violence as items were taken.

A property – also in Sutton-in-Ashfield – was the target of the burglary, with an intruder forcing a door open on 23 September, before stealing pairs of trainers.

Tesco stores in Blidworth and Mansfield were impacted by the thefts, on 25 September and 30 September respectively, while a car window was smashed on 26 September too.

When inquiries into each incident led to the same suspect being identified, the individual's description was circulated, which helped prompt the good spot and stop by PC Duffy.

Inspector Tim Ringer said: "The actions of PC Duffy leading up to and during this incident were exemplary and resulted in us arresting a suspect for several offences.

"Having spotted this individual while driving around on patrol single crewed, the officer parked up, deployed PD Riddick and then stopped the man outside a shop.

"Proactively using the police dog in this manner clearly affected the suspect's decision to be compliant with the police and to not try to run away.

"As I say, the awareness and decision making demonstrated by PC Duffy throughout this job ensured we were able to safely detain an outstanding suspect, so this was a great piece of police work."

**UPDATE**

This incident has been safely resolved and residents are able to return to their properties.

A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of a bomb hoax and is being questioned by police.

Our enquiries are at an early stage and we thank local residents for their patience and understanding.

At 7.51am we were called to an address in Westdale Road, Jacksdale, after a suspicious package was discovered outside.

Out of caution, our officers have evacuated nearby properties pending further investigations by explosive ordinance disposal engineers.

Residents affected by the evacuation can go to Jacksdale Garden Centre, which has been made available as a place of safety.

We'd like to thank local residents for their cooperation and assure them that we are working to resolve the situation as efficiently and safely as possible.

We are appealing for information following an act of vandalism at a café in Kirkby-in-Ashfield.

A hooded man approached the café, on Kingsway, before damaging a window with a hammer.

The incident happened shortly before 1am on September 28 and caused extensive damage to the shop front.

We are now appealing for information to identify a man who we believe may be able to help with our inquiries.

Pc Abby Mason, of our Kirkby Response Team, said: “Anti-social behaviour doesn't only affect our retailers and shoppers, but also our wider community.

"We have been pursuing multiple lines of enquiry into this incident and are now appealing to the public for information as part of our investigation.

“We believe the person captured in this image may be able to help with our inquiries and would like to hear from anyone who can identify them.”

The man pictured is described as white, around 5ft 10in tall, and was wearing dark clothing, including a North Face windbreaker jacket.

A burglar's feet let him down and ensured he was quickly caught and ultimately locked up.

Steven Bowler was jailed this week after being linked to two burglaries and an attempted break-in too.

The three offences happened within minutes of one another, with one elderly homeowner catching Bowler in her house.

Having been woken in the early hours of the morning on 14 September, the woman quickly realised there was an intruder in her bungalow.

She immediately raised the alarm, while Bowler ran out of the property and into the night, having left a shoe tread mark behind on a windowsill.

He didn't flee quickly enough though from the third Sutton-in-Ashfield home he'd targeted that morning – a fact that wasn't discovered until later.

In the meantime, we made our way straight to the bungalow, with a mixture of Operational Support and response officers conducting an area search.

This was supported by a drone equipped with thermal cameras flying high above, who pointed officers in the direction of someone seen acting suspiciously.

Our Armed Policing officers on the ground then spotted Bowler soon afterwards, who they thought – rightly as it turned out – was the person they were looking for.

When searched, a bank card and a set of car keys were discovered that, following further inquiries, were found to have come from another home the fleeing thief had just burgled.

With that evidence pointing to one break-in, Bowler was then linked to the bungalow one too, when the shoe print on the windowsill was found to match the tread on his trainers.

If that wasn't enough, a doorbell camera also caught him in the act of committing crime number three, as he tried a door handle to another property on the same road as the bungalow.

Faced with the evidence against him, Bowler, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to the two counts of burglary and one attempted burglary he'd been charged with.

Having been remanded into custody following that hearing, he attended Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday (6 October), where he was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison.

Detective Inspector James Oakton said: "So many different policing teams played a part in Bowler receiving this well-deserved sentence.

"Operational Support and response officers worked with the drone team fantastically well first up to quickly locate him after he burgled a bungalow.

"The officers on the ground duly searched Bowler and discovered items on him that pointed to another burglary he'd committed that hadn't been reported yet.

"Following that, some great work by our Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) colleagues linked him to one address based on a shoe print he'd left behind.

"Our Criminal Investigation Department (CID) then stitched all of this evidence together to build a strong case against Bowler that meant he quickly admitted to what he'd done.

"As I say, this was a great example of our policing teams working in tandem to achieve a brilliant result."

Two violent brothers have been locked up after a woman and her partner were hit with a baseball bat during a vicious attack.

The woman briefly lost consciousness after being struck to her face and legs by her ex-partner, 32-year-old Mitchell Burton, who also repeatedly hit her new partner with the weapon.

Both of his wrists were broken as he tried to shield his head and face during the savage attack which took place at Holiday Hills Park in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, around 8.45pm on 14 April this year.

His other injuries included a fractured knee and cut to his head.

His partner suffered a black eye, swelling and bruising and an injury to her leg.

Before fleeing the scene, Mitchell Burton smashed the windows and windscreen of a Vauxhall Vectra belonging to the male victim.

His younger brother, 21-year-old Keenan Burton, was also involved in the brutal attack.

While it was accepted he didn't use a weapon, he knew his older brother was armed and knew what was going to happen.

The court heard it was a 'revenge attack' linked to a previous assault.

Both were swiftly located and arrested following the incident and were subsequently charged.

They initially denied the offences, denied taking any weapons with them and denied premeditation.

However, phone evidence obtained by our lead investigators in the case, including call data showing the brothers on the phone for 19 minutes as they drove up to the offence location, proved to be key.

During their searches Kirkby our officers found a baseball bat at the brothers' home address, during the early hours of 15 April, which was discarded within shrubbery in the back garden.

Data extracted from Mitchell Burton's phone showed he had taken a photo of this bat, around two-and-a-half hours before the attack, and sent it to his brother followed by messages making reference to using it on the victims' heads.

The phone evidence gathered left the brothers with no choice but to plead guilty to a charge of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent on the male victim.

Mitchell Burton, of Betts Avenue, Hucknall, also pleaded guilty to charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm on his ex-partner, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and causing criminal damage.

He was jailed for four years and eight months when he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on Friday (2 October).

Keenan Burton, also of Betts Avenue, was locked up for three years and four months.

Both brothers were also made subject of seven-year restraining orders.

Police Staff Investigator Safha Iqbal said: "This was a brutal and sustained attack on a vulnerable woman and her partner which involved a baseball bat used with significant force causing serious injuries.

"Our investigation and the evidence we uncovered showed there was planning involved in this vicious assault by the brothers.

"Violence of this sort will not be tolerated in our communities and anyone responsible for assaults of this nature can expect a robust response from the force and ultimately a spell behind bars.

"I hope the victims are now able to move on from their horrific ordeal.

"After being informed of the guilty pleas, the woman contacted me to say how grateful they both were for everything we did for them during our investigation.

“I hope this case demonstrates our commitment to investigating such crimes and bringing those responsible for violence to account."

We are urging elderly and vulnerable residents to be on their guard against rogue traders after we arrested two suspects over a reported fraud.

Officers are advising them to report anything suspicious and urging people living near to elderly residents to keep an eye out for their neighbours.

The warning comes after an elderly Hucknall resident contacted a company online, purporting to be genuine electricians, to get some electrical repair work done.

Two men attended her address on Tuesday (29 September) and demanded £13,000 for work which is believed should have only costed a few hundred pounds.

One of the men took the woman to a bank in Mansfield, intending for her to transfer the money into an account.

Staff at the bank became suspicious of this and reported the incident to us, preventing the fraud.

Thankfully, the victim didn’t withdraw any money.

She was then driven back to her home address where our officers were already in attendance.

Two suspects, aged 20 and 22, were arrested on suspicion of fraud by false representation.

Both were subsequently released on conditional bail while inquiries continue.

One of the men had left live wires exposed after removing cables from an electrical box.

We contacted National Grid officials who attended the address and replaced the consumer unit.

Officers have given advice to the victims about protecting themselves from fraud as the investigation continues.

Detective Inspector Luke Waller said: "A genuine tradesperson will always provide a customer with a detailed written breakdown of costs for work needing to be done.

"They would not demand full payment on the spot and wouldn’t offer to give a customer a lift to their bank, pressuring them to hand over cash.

"We’d advise people to ensure due diligence checks are completed before any work is agreed to be done and ideally get three separate detailed and itemised written quotes from established businesses to compare if they need repair work doing.

"If you're in any doubt, you should say no and speak to a relative or a trusted friend before you make any decision.

"Genuine tradespeople would expect customers to ask questions and be firm with their inquiries.

"If something doesn't feel right trust your instincts. If you feel threatened or in danger you should call the police immediately on 999."

It’s been a busy day for officers in and around the Coxmoor Estate and Felley Priory, after the Kirkby Neighbourhood Policing Team took six illegal off-road bikes off the roads. Three of the bikes had been identified as possible stolen vehicles, while a further three were seized following offences including illegal riding. Safe to say, none of them made it to the end of the day where their riders expected.

One of the bikes was registered with the DVLA as a 125cc, despite having a 250cc engine fitted. The V5 said 125cc. The engine said, nice try. Unfortunately, the law looks at what the vehicle actually is, not what someone has decided to declare to the DVLA. A rider with only provisional entitlement cannot simply ride a 250cc motorcycle just because he registered it as a 125cc.

Then there was the electric scooter. It was being ridden around the town, including in the middle of the road alongside traffic, and when tested it was capable of reaching 56mph. At that point, calling it just an electric scooter feels like calling a motorway journey a little drive around the corner.

All of the vehicles have now been seized, with their next destination being the recovery yard. Not quite the grand finale their riders were hoping for, but at least the recovery truck knows exactly where it’s going.

“Following numerous reports from the community regarding the illegal use of off-road bikes across Kirkby, the Neighbourhood Policing Team has been working extremely hard to tackle the issue.

Through a series of targeted patrols and proactive operations, using a combination of both marked and unmarked police vehicles, officers have taken robust action against those causing nuisance and putting members of the public at risk.

As a result, we have seized a total of six illegal off-road bikes from across the area in just one day.

In addition, officers also seized an electric scooter that was being ridden around the town. When tested, the scooter was capable of reaching speeds of 56mph, highlighting just how dangerous these vehicles can be when used illegally on public roads and in public spaces.

These scooters are potentially lethal to both riders and other members of the public. We will continue to take positive action against anyone riding them illegally and will not hesitate to seize vehicles where offences are being committed.

I’d like to thank the public for continuing to report these issues to us. The information you provide helps us identify offenders, target our patrols effectively, and keep Kirkby safe for everyone.”

Off-road bikes can be fun when they’re being used legally, but off-road doesn’t mean above the law. Make sure you have the correct licence, insurance, and permissions, and that the vehicle you’re riding complies with the law.

On 28/09/2026 an extension to a Closure Order on an address on Lime Tree Road in Hucknall was granted by Nottingham Magistrates Court.

This order was initially granted for 3 months and the extension bans all except one individual from entering the address. These Closure Orders remain a powerful tool in our armory when an address and individuals within the address cause misery for their neighbours and surrounding areas and we are pleased the court extended the order for another three months.

Anyone other than the named individual on the order attending and entering the address will be subject to arrest and face a potential 1 year prison sentence. We would encourage local residents to remain vigilant and report any concerns to us via 101 or 999 if appropriate.

Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO)

Under the Anti-Social Behaviour Act of 2014 the police and Ashfield District Council have a series of wide ranging powers to stop and prevent anti-social behaviour, this power covers the covers the whole of Ashfield. As the residents of Hucknall may have noticed, officers and colleagues in the council have flooded the Town Centre and churchyard over recent evenings to stop, deter and disrupt. Alcohol and vapes have been seized, bikes and scooters ridden in anti-social manner have been seized and several tickets have been issued to individuals directing them to leave the Town Centre.

The direction to leave tickets are essentially a notice for an individual over the age of 10 found committing ASB or who we suspect will commit ASB to leave an identified location for a period of 48 hours. A breach of this will result in a £100 fixed penalty ticket and a possible £1000 fine for non payment.

The current offences included in Ashfield covered under the Act include :-

• Alcohol consumption in designated areas where a person is causing, or is likely to cause, nuisance or annoyance. Officers can require alcohol to be surrendered.
• Urinating or defecating in a public place within designated areas.
• Dog fouling and failing to clear up after a dog.
• Failing to carry suitable means to pick up dog faeces when requested by an authorised officer.
• Failing to put a dog on a lead when directed by an authorised officer.
• Dogs on leads in specified areas.
• Dog exclusion areas, including enclosed children's play areas and certain sports facilities.
• Maximum of six dogs per person being exercised at any one time.
• Direction to move on for persons behaving in an anti-social manner.
• Vehicle nuisance, including behaviour associated with nuisance vehicles in designated locations. (included pedal cycles)
• Street harassment within the district.
• Restricted access highways/ginnels at specified locations where access has been restricted to reduce ASB.

Breaches of these can result in an immediate fixed penalty.
