Join us on Sunday 6th September at 10:30am for a Free Weekend Walk in The National Forest!

This gentle 6-mile route explores six young woodlands in the Mease Lowlands, rich with local history and natural beauty.

No booking needed, just turn up with sturdy footwear and enjoy a great morning outdoors.

🌧️ Event Cancellation Notice

Unfortunately, due to the forecast of heavy rain and thunderstorms this afternoon, we have made the difficult decision to cancel today's Historical Inventor Xplorer Family Trail at Cadley Park.

The safety of everyone attending is our priority, and the expected weather conditions mean it is not possible for the event to go ahead.

We apologise for any disappointment this may cause and thank you for your understanding.

🚨 Thursday Afternoon Sessions Cancelled 🚨

After carefully reviewing the forecast, we've made the difficult decision to cancel our afternoon sessions in Shardlow, Elvaston and Hartshorne this Thursday due to the expected high temperatures.

This wasn't a decision we took lightly. Due to the expected extreme heat, some of our equipment cannot be operated safely and effectively. The safety and wellbeing of our staff and young people always comes first.

The good news is that: ✅ Morning sessions are still going ahead. ✅ Skateboard Coaching will run as advertised.

We'd really appreciate your help in getting the message out by sharing this post with friends, family and anyone who may be attending.

☀️ Wacky Wednesday Update ☀️

With high temperatures forecast, we've made the decision to bring Wacky Wednesday forward to an earlier time of 10:00am - 1:00pm.

This decision hasn't been taken lightly. Due to the expected extreme heat, some of our equipment cannot be operated safely and effectively, and we've therefore made the difficult decision to adjust our plans. This also helps to safeguard the wellbeing of our staff and everyone attending.

🌳 Music in the Park will continue as scheduled from 1:00pm - 4:00pm, with plenty of shade available under the trees around the bandstand and we will keep out some of our smaller, self-led activities such as giant games and art & crafts.

Whilst we appreciate this isn't an ideal change, it does mean we're still able to offer a bumper day of FREE entertainment, while putting the safety and comfort of everyone involved first.

🔥 Please help prevent wildfires in South Derbyshire 🔥

Following the recent wildfire in Swadlincote Woodlands, which destroyed an area of newly planted saplings, we are reminding residents and visitors to take extra care while enjoying our outdoor spaces.

The current dry conditions mean that grass, woodland and vegetation can ignite quickly, with devastating consequences for wildlife, habitats and community spaces.

Please help reduce the risk by:

❌ Not using BBQs, disposable BBQs or any naked flames in parks, woodlands and open spaces
🚭 Disposing of ci******es, matches and smoking materials responsibly
🗑️ Taking litter home or using bins provided
📞 Reporting any signs of fire immediately by calling 999

The loss of these young trees is a stark reminder that even a small spark can have a lasting impact. By taking a few simple precautions, we can all help protect our green spaces for future generations.

🎶✨ What a fantastic afternoon at Musicals in the Park! ✨🎶

Yesterday, more than 1,300 people joined us at Maurice Lea Memorial Park for a wonderful celebration of music, community and summer fun.

A huge thank you to local theatre group The Mellow Dramatics, whose fantastic performances kept the crowd entertained all afternoon with a brilliant selection of musical favourites. Their energy and talent made the event truly special.

We were also delighted to have the event officially opened by the Chair of the Council, Cllr Tilley, helping to kick off a memorable day enjoyed by residents and visitors of all ages.

Among our guests was three-week-old Eric, who made his very first visit to Maurice Lea Memorial Park and seemed to love every moment of the occasion. 👶💚

Thank you to everyone who came along and helped make Musicals in the Park such a tremendous success. It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying the park, supporting local performers and spending time together as a community.

🌳🎭🎵 We can't wait to see you at our next event On Sunday the 9th August 2-4pm
