🏛️ DORSET ARCHITECTURAL HERITAGE WEEK – SWANAGE

📅 11–20 September 2026

Swanage Town Council is delighted to be taking part in Dorset Architectural Heritage Week, a celebration of Dorset’s fascinating historic environment, organised by the East Dorset Heritage Trust.

As part of this special week, we’ll be celebrating Swanage Town Hall and the town’s rich architectural heritage, giving residents and visitors the opportunity to discover more about the history of one of Swanage’s most distinctive buildings.

From historic buildings and churches to guided walks, talks and special open days, the Architectural Heritage Week offers a fantastic opportunity to discover some of the wonderful heritage on our doorstep – much of which we pass every day without knowing the stories behind it.

Swanage Town Council has a vacancy for a Cleaner to help maintain our award‑winning Swanage Information Centre and beach huts along the seafront. If you are reliable, take pride in your work, and can help us maintain high standards of cleanliness and presentation, we'd love to hear from you!

🕒 Hours:
• 4 hours per week
• Fixed-Term Contract: ASAP to 31st March 2027

Working hours:
• Monday: 5.00pm to 6.00pm
• Friday: 5.00pm to 6.00pm
• Saturday: 7.00am to 9.00am

Pay: £13.28 per hour (Grade 2 SCP3)

📅 Interview date: 17th September 2026

✨ About the role:
You will be responsible for cleaning the Swanage Information Centre and the Council's beach huts, ensuring they are clean, presentable and ready for customers. Most Information Centre cleaning will take place when the building is closed to the public on Monday and Friday evenings. Saturday morning duties involve cleaning and checking beach huts along the seafront. Additional cleaning hours may occasionally be available during busy periods and will be paid at the normal hourly rate.

All necessary cleaning equipment, materials and training will be provided.

🌟 Gold Standard Award for Godlingston Cemetery 🌟

We are delighted that Godlingston Cemetery has been awarded Gold Standard status in the national Cemetery of the Year Awards 2026, sponsored by the British Register of Accredited Memorial Masons (BRAMM), recognising the high standards of care, maintenance and service provided at the site.

Councillor Chris Moreton, Chairman of the Community Services Committee said:

“The gold standard award is a tremendous tribute to the workforce who look after our cemetery so well. It is a testimony to the professionalism from those who maintain the grounds, to those who administer the service and help our residents at a distressing time. We are lucky to have a good team."

Set in its peaceful hillside location overlooking the town, Godlingston Cemetery is an important place for remembrance and reflection. We are proud that its quality, facilities and services have been recognised through this award.

🚣‍♂️🎉 Congratulations to Swanage Sea Rowing Club on celebrating its 25th Anniversary! 🎉🚣‍♀️

For 25 years, the club has brought people together through a shared love of rowing. A huge thank you to all the members, volunteers, coaches and supporters who have helped make the club such a valued part of our community. Here's to many more years of success on the water!

A birthday bash was held at the Swanage Sea Rowing boathouse in Dorset, to mark 25 years since the club was formed in 2001, and to celebrate becoming winners of the Jurassic League for 2026.
