In the sunshine, the most numerous butterfly of the morning was the Clouded Yellow, golden yellow in flight, but more green when it perched with its wings closed - just part of the daily diary.

Just near Anvil Point lighthouse I was delighted to watch a Wheatear bobbing on the top of a flat stone, eventually taking flight, flashing its white rump as it went. .. part of the Daily Diary blog we write - for more see our Durlston website.

Last couple of spaces available for Robin Mackenzie's wood Engraving Workshop on Saturday 12th September...

Join printmaker Robin to create your own wood engraving. This one-day workshop is perfect for beginners looking to learn a new technique, or for those who wish to build on their existing skills. You will be taught the principles of designing for wood engraving, methods of engraving into a block of end grain wood, and how to print from your finished block.

Booking for the event is required, to book email [email protected] or call 07979 812083. £95 per person including materials. The event will take place from 10.30am - 4pm at the Learning Centre.

The Herefords are munching around in field 6 and 6a, a quick check, difficult to count as they are well spread. However flitting overhead in a looping movement were two Yellow Wagtails, which then landed in the grass amongst the cattle.

With the 1st of September comes an Autumnal feel to the Park, and as I wrote in my daily diary ...."From the Dog Rose a Spotted Flycatcher swooped to grab an insect before returning to it prickly perch, its speckled chest, and dark eye and beak, a couple of the features to look out for"..... pop into the Castle to find out more info - its a great time for a stroll around!

My first Autumn Ladies Tresses of the year seen today, such strange looking orchids, with the white flowers spiralling up the stem. Hopefully with a bit of rain more will be popping up

Above me the twitter of a Swallow as it contacted the others flying overhead, the flutter of bluish wings and pale underside seen as they passed, soon followed by some Sand Martins and more Swallows. read more on our Daily Diary - durlston.co.uk

Across the ground a Bloody-nose Beetle slowly wound itself, aiming for a patch of Ladies Bedstraw, which still had a few delicate yellow flowers to see. a section of my 'Ranger's Diary' which we write every day, to read more see the durlston website
