The Lovell Quinta Arboretum

One of Cheshire's Gardens of Distinction. 28-acre arboretum in Swettenham village by the Swettenham Arms. Open all year, non-members £2.50 Dogs welcome on leads.

It has 800 species of plants and trees and was the lifelong project of Sir Bernard Lovell, founder of Jodrell Bank. Welcome to the Lovell Quinta Arboretum, a 28-acre site in Swettenham, near Congleton. It was created by Sir Bernard Lovell in the mid 1950s, best known for his telescope at Jodrell Bank and his work with radar. He was very enthusiastic about plants, especially trees and shrubs, and c

ollected examples from far and wide. The Arboretum is home to a colourful range of around 2,500 different plants including snowdrops, crocus and daffodils in the spring as well as trees and shrubs. A tranquil place of grassy walks and leafy arbours, the Arboretum is home to a wide variety of wildlife and makes the perfect destination for a family outing or a quiet walk. It is now managed by the Tatton Garden Society as a charitable trust primarily as an educational, tree and shrub collection for the benefit of gardeners. Open all year round except Christmas Day. Members of the TGS benefit from free entry, there is a £2.50 donation for non-members. All donations go back into managing the site and helping to support its upkeep.
