****Please SHARE and BE AWARE****

I have been in touch with Swindon Police following reports of Nitrous Oxide Cannisters being found in Queens Park.

Please be aware that taking nitrous oxide can be very dangerous and has even resulted in death. Please also ensure that your children are aware of the risks:

Physical health risks

It is very dangerous to inhale nitrous oxide directly from the canister, and doing it in an enclosed space is also very dangerous.

If you take too much nitrous oxide you risk falling unconscious and/or suffocating from the lack of oxygen. People have died this way.

Other risks include:

Dizziness, which might make you act carelessly or dangerously.

Heavy regular use of nitrous oxide can lead to a deficiency of vitamin B12 and to a form of anaemia. Severe B12 deficiency can lead to serious nerve damage, causing tingling and numbness in the fingers and toes. This can be very painful and make walking difficult.

Regular use can stop you forming white blood cells properly.

It can be hard to judge the amount to use safely. If you have too much you can end up fainting, having an accident or worse.

Mixing nitrous oxide with alcohol is especially dangerous as it can increase the risks associated with both substances and can lead to an increased risk of accidents.

Nitrous Oxide and the law

This is a psychoactive drug and is covered by the 2016 Psychoactive Substances Act, which means it’s illegal to give away or sell.

Supply and production can get you up to 7 years in prison, an unlimited fine or both.

Like drink-driving, driving when high is dangerous and illegal. If you’re caught driving under the influence, you may receive a heavy fine, driving ban, or prison sentence.

💻 Laptops for Local Schools and Charities Scheme – Update 💻

As part of the Laptops for Local Schools and Charities Scheme, I am now working closely with the Digital Inclusion Lead at Swindon Borough Council.

Following a generous donation of laptops from local business Catalent Pharma Solutions, Excalibur Communications Ltd has very kindly refurbished the devices, which were then donated to The Shop in Cavendish Square

The shop is a charitable organisation that provides affordable goods for the local community, as well as local events in Park South.

The laptops donated to The Shop will be used for drop-in sessions, to help people access their emails, book tests, and appointments online, and provide support to children due to start secondary school in September – e.g. accessing their timetables and paying for school activities, as well as lunch.

I am very grateful to all of those local residents and businesses who have donated devices, not to mention the brilliant teams at Excalibur and SP Computers who have stepped up at such a difficult time and repaired hundreds of devices.🙏

I am calling for residents and businesses here in Swindon who have unwanted or unused devices to get in touch so that these can be put to good use.

I am also calling for local charities to get in touch if they could benefit from a refurbished device.

Buying and installing solar panels can feel like quite a daunting process. That’s why we’re working with a company called iChoosr, alongside Our Wiltshire, on a scheme called Solar Together Wiltshire to help make things easier for Swindon and Wiltshire residents.

How does it work?
It’s a group-buying scheme that helps you get high-quality solar panels and storage at a competitive price, helping you through the process and keeping you informed at every stage.

From tomorrow (9 May), you’ll be able to register your interest for free and without obligation at www.solartogether.co.uk/swindon - this will be open until 14 June.

Then, a ‘reverse auction’ will take place among pre-vetted solar installers and the most competitive package will win the auction.

You’ll then be emailed your personal recommendation in July, based on the details you gave when registering, and it’s then up to you whether you want to accept the recommendation.
