Good afternoon Swindon!

Blue watch on duty and we will shortly be handing over to Red watch for the night shift.

Reds will be opening the gates for football parking supporting tonight’s game and raising money for Fire Fighters Charity.

£10 per car with cash or card taken on the gate.

Gates open at 18:15, please can we ask not to block the gates while waiting as the day watch will be trying to leave 🙂

Yesterday, we were invited to the Wanborough village fete to meet the locals and show the kids and adults alike the fire engine and the equipment we use.

Looks like FF Waite had a little bit too much fun!

They did it! Massive congratulations to Blue watch who completed the walk and high rise challenge today.

Tomorrow, Blue Watch, Swindon, will be taking on an extraordinary physical and mental challenge to raise both money and awareness for little Koa and his family.
The team will begin at Westlea Fire Station and complete a 13‑mile route around Swindon, visiting 11 high‑rise buildings along the way. Each building will be fully ascended, with every firefighter wearing full fire kit, breathing apparatus (BA) and carrying a full high‑rise bag, with equipment weighing 50kg+ throughout the entire challenge.
This demanding walk is being undertaken to support Jerica and Samson, whose world was turned upside down in March when their baby boy, Koa, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer at just 14 months old.

We have been asked by our partners at SBC to share an update regarding the use of BBQs at their parks.

With immediate effect, the use of any BBQ type is prohibited at all Swindon Borough Country Parks.

This includes the use of disposable, static rentals and bringing your own BBQ (previously permitted at coate water).

This is due to the high wildfire alert in place.

We thank SBC ranger team for their support in this matter.

Our colleagues from SBC have asked us to provide the following update in relation to bbqs at their country parks.

All BBQs are now banned with immediate effect at all SBC country parks.

This is in response to continued dry weather and high wildfire alerts.

Dorset and Wiltshire have declared a major incident in response to the demands on our service at this time and we ask our community to do all they can to protect our resources and our environment.

This includes all BBQs (not just disposable ones).

Our control room continues to receive a high volume of 999 calls relating to a variety of incidents across our service area.
All of our staff work incredibly hard to respond to incidents and provide support where it is needed most.

Last night, Red watch were called to reports of a fire at Coate Water Country Park.

On arrival, crews discovered visitors having a small camp fire and using a disposable BBQ.

Our crews extinguished both the fire and disposable BBQ.

As a service, we do not encourage the use of disposable BBQs as they have been the cause of many wildfires over recent years which consume our environment and our resources.

A statement from the Ranger team at Swindon Borough Council regarding bbqs and fires:-

Coate Water Country Park is the only country park where visitors are allowed to bring their own BBQ. Our rules state groups must be less than 20 people, groups over 20 people must hire one of our static BBQs and disposable BBQs /fires are prohibited.

Yesterday afternoon, white watch went along to Marlborough where our training centre team have sourced a derelict row of houses.

The property owner has kindly given us permission to allow our crews to practice with before they are demolished.

A unique opportunity to set a controlled fire giving our crews a realistic house fire for training.
