We've teamed up with Richard James Estate Agents's Wroughton team to spruce up the High Street this summer.

They've kindly sponsored 13 new planters that contain some beautiful begonias.

And they look bloomin' lovely 🌹🪻💐

We're always looking for ways to work with local businesses to help improve the parish.

Great news - we've installed a new picnic bench at the Maunsell Way field 👍

It's located next to the BMX track and just before the entrance to the history museum.

We wanted to give you all somewhere nice to sit this summer.

Happy picnicking, everybody!

❗️Roadworks on Swindon Road / Moormead Road ❗️

We have noted a number of comments and questions circulating on Facebook regarding the current roadworks and associated disruption on Swindon Road and Moormead Road.

The Parish Council would like to clarify that these works, and any related road closures or traffic management arrangements, are not connected to Wroughton & Wichelstowe Parish Council, nor have they been planned or commissioned by the Parish Council.

We were notified late last week that Wales & West Utilities would be undertaking these works. Unfortunately, we have been advised that the project is likely to continue until September.

The information we have received is the same information that has been shared on the Parish Council website in advance of Wednesday's Planning & Highways Committee meeting.
https://wroughton.gov.uk/meeting/planning-highways-134/

The latest update provided to us is as follows:

"Today we have received news that Wales & West Utilities will be undertaking roadworks on Swindon Road/Moormead Road from now until September. They will be replacing a gas main and disruption will likely be significant."

The Parish Council will be discussing these works and their impact on residents at Wednesday evening's Planning & Highways Committee meeting and will provide further updates following that meeting.

If you have concerns, complaints, or require further information regarding the works, please contact Wales & West Utilities directly:

📞 0800 294 6645
📧 [email protected]

We appreciate that this disruption will be frustrating for residents and road users and will continue to share any updates we receive as they become available.

And they're off...🐎

In equestrian-related news, our free family-friendly Pony Trail walking route, that we've put together with Swindon Borough Council, is still trotting around the parish.

To get involved, grab a map from the Ellendune Community Centre, explore the trail and enter a prize draw.

There's a free Pony Trail badge for everyone!

Further details are in the comments 👇👇👇

We are very disappointed to see graffiti both on the bus shelter on Swindon Road and on the new bench in Belmont Green. There are costs involved to provide these amenities to the public and further costs including man hours to try and remove the damage caused. 🤬😧😡

Thanks to one of our grounds team members, the bench at Belmont has already been cleaned 👏and the grounds team will do their best to clean the bus shelter graffiti over the coming weeks.

If a member of the public witnesses anything untoward then we would be grateful if you could report this directly to the police on 101. You can also use the following link:

This week we’re marking British Heart Week ❤️‍🩹💖

It’s an annual event organised by the British Heart Foundation to promote healthy lifestyles and raise awareness of heart conditions.

There are a number of life-saving defibrillator units at various locations across the parish. Some are operated by us and some by other groups and organisations.

You’ll remember that we recently installed a new one in Alexandra Park. One of our councillors, Diane Archer, kindly allowed us to put one on the side of her house (thanks Diane!).

We're currently supporting the ZABRA initiative, a scheme which collects and donates pre-loved bras to women in need across Africa.

There is a donation point for your bras in the Ellendune, just by the door of the parish office.

We're accepting donations until 22 June.

ZABRA collects and distributes bras to women in impoverished communities, giving them dignity, confidence and protection.

Our fabulous projects officer, Amanda, who you all know and love, is demonstrating some of the donations 👇
