This weekend, we were joined by reporters from German TV news outlet RTL to see how we are working to make Wiltshire's nightlife a fun and safe place to be.

Wiltshire Police has been running Project Vigilant since 2022. The initiative uses both plain-clothed and uniformed officers to proactively challenge behaviours that make women and girls feel unsafe or intimidated, aiming to identify and intercept predatory behaviour before a crime is committed.

Our Force is one of the leaders in developing Project Vigilant further, providing training to other police forces as well as new recruits joining Wiltshire Police. We have also introduced the use of drones to support deployments.

More recently, we hosted officers from Stockholm Police, who were keen to see how these tactics could be used in Sweden.

đź”’ CLOSED đź”’

We have secured another closure order for The Lavy in Commercial Road, Swindon, due to ongoing concerns around the sale of illicit to***co and vapes.

The Lavy was closed in March for three months – the maximum initial period allowed for by law – after officers attended and seized counterfeit goods and ci******es, as well as a significant amount of cash.

Since the closure order expired, we have again been receiving information regarding the illicit trading of illegal goods.

As a result, officers attended Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Friday (21/08), where another three-month closure order for the business was secured.

PC Brown, based in the Swindon Central South NPT, said: “As we repeatedly say, the sale of illegal vapes and to***co harms legitimate businesses and is coordinated by organised crime groups to create funds and launder money.

“Not only that but it is a health risk due to the lack of quality controls on the products being sold. You simply don’t know what is in them.

“We will continue to patrol the area and ensure the order is being adhered to.

“If you have any concerns regarding suspected counterfeit goods, please tell us so we can use all relevant powers to take the most appropriate action.”

We are looking to identify a witness in connection with a report of a sexual assault which occurred at the Orbital Shopping Centre on Friday (21/08) at around 2pm.

Following the incident, a man was arrested a short time later in Asda. He has since been bailed.

During this time, a witness who was shopping in Asda at the time approached our reporting person who we believe can assist us with our enquiries.

He is described as white, tall, of a slim build, wearing shorts and possibly a white t-shirt.

The witness may also have interacted with the suspect prior to the arrest.

We are appealing for this witness to come forward to speak with us to assist with our investigation.

If you can help, please email [email protected] quoting reference 54260101904.

đźš” Recognition for Outstanding Bravery

PC Elliot Alvis has been recognised for his courage after helping to save the life of a woman who had set herself on fire in Swindon earlier this year.

Responding to a report of a distressed woman at the Orbital Shopping Centre, Elliot and his colleagues put themselves in significant danger to come to her aid. Using his bare hands, Elliot helped extinguish the flames, removed the woman's burned clothing and provided first aid until paramedics arrived.

For their rapid, selfless and decisive actions, Elliot and his colleagues were awarded the Chief Constable's Commendation at the recent Wiltshire Police Force Awards.

Speaking afterwards, Elliot said: "There wasn't any time to think, I just acted on instinct to save her life and I'm sure that any of my colleagues would have done the exact same thing."

The officers were also nominated for the national Police Federation Bravery Awards.

Congratulations to PC Alvis and all the officers involved. Their bravery, professionalism and unwavering commitment to protecting others exemplify the very best of Wiltshire Police. 👏
