Happy National Dog Day! 🐶🐾

To celebrate, we’re throwing it back to the launch of Tamworth’s Dog Trail! 💛

It was brilliant to see so many four-legged friends and their owners come along and explore the town together and help launch our Dog Friendly Tamworth initiative.

The monthly dog walks are still taking place, with the next one on 6 September, guided by Chelsie from Train With Chelsie, expert dog trainer and behaviourist. 🐕‍🦺

Dog Friendly Tamworth is all about making it easier for dog owners to enjoy the town, explore local businesses and feel confident about where their dogs are welcome.

Look out for dog-friendly window stickers around town, or use our interactive map to find participating businesses, marked with yellow paw prints. 🐾

Whether you’re grabbing a coffee, doing some shopping or simply exploring Tamworth, there are plenty of places to enjoy with your four-legged friend.

📢 £118,000 available to support community projects in Tamworth!

Do you have an idea that could help build stronger, more connected communities across Tamworth? Voluntary groups and charities can now apply for a share of the latest Community Recovery Fund through the We Are Tamworth crowdfunding programme.

💷 Grants of up to £10,000 are available, alongside support from local people and partners through crowdfunding.

Projects supported so far include free football sessions for young people, community choirs, arts and wellbeing projects, the Art of Tamworth Festival, a community farm sensory area and support tackling hygiene poverty.

🗓️ Applications for this funding round close on 30 September 2026.

🏘️ Have your say on the future of Tamworth

A six-week consultation on Tamworth’s draft Local Plan 2022–2043 is now open.

The Local Plan will help shape how Tamworth grows and changes over the next 20 years – influencing where new homes, jobs, shops, community facilities and infrastructure could go, while protecting the things that make Tamworth special.

The draft plan covers topics including:
💼 Economy and employment
🏙️ Town centre and retail
❤️ Healthy communities
🏰 Heritage
🏡 Design and placemaking
🏠 Housing
💧 Flooding
🌳 The natural environment
🌍 Environmental protection
🚶 Sustainable transport
🏗️ Infrastructure

This is an important opportunity for residents, businesses, community groups and other organisations to have their say before the plan is submitted to the Planning Inspectorate for independent examination.

The council has already worked with residents, businesses and community groups throughout the development of the plan and would like to thank everyone who has contributed their views so far.

We love this fab video round-up of the recent Art Of Tamworth Festival held in the Castle Grounds on August 15th. 🎨🤸🤼‍♂️🥁

The event was one of 10 projects which have so far received funding from the We Are Tamworth Spacehive crowdfunding initiative.

Organised by New Urban ERA Nue, the festival brought a wide range of artists and performers together for a huge celebration of art and creativity.

It included entertainment across the town centre and grounds including Samara Circus acts, Bathory Pro , Dubafrique African Drummers, live art and a whole range of family activities.

A fantastic £10,905 was raised for this event via Spacehive, which included a £3,844 grant from the council’s Community Recovery Fund, as well as donations and support from local people, councillors and businesses.

Tamworth Borough Council still has more than £118,000 to give out via the Spacehive platform, which brings community-led initiatives to life through council grants and local donations.

🔊The next Community Estate Day is in St Editha's Square on Tuesday 8 September.

These events bring together a range of council services and partner organisations, making it easier to get advice, ask questions, and access support all in one place.

💬Residents are encouraged to come along, speak to housing service teams and local partners including Support Staffordshire, Staffordshire Police, and the illegal money lending team to find out what support is available in the area.

Staffordshire Police have been out visiting venues across Staffordshire, including premises in Tamworth, as part of their ongoing work to support the Ask for Angela campaign.

The campaign gives people a discreet way to ask for help if they feel unsafe or uncomfortable while out.

It’s great to see the support in helping make nights out safer for everyone.

👮 Officers have successfully run a series of test visits to venues in the south of the county as part of the national Ask For Angela campaign.

Throughout June and July, officers visited venues across Cannock, Rugeley, Stafford, Stone, Tamworth and Burton-upon-Trent.

26 venues were tested to assess staff awareness and implementation of the safeguarding initiative, aimed at helping anyone, but particularly women and girls, in need of support while on a night out.

From the venues tested, 24 responded appropriately, with staff recognising the phrase and taking effective action to support and safeguard the individual.

The two venues that did not respond appropriately were given advice and guidance by the officers to better recognise and implement the scheme in the future.

DI Cat Holland, of our public protection unit, who was part of the testing scheme alongside DC Kara Evans and DC Lily Rowley, said: “These results demonstrate the strong commitment shown by the vast majority of venues in helping to create safer environments for customers.

“Following the tests, officers will work closely with the venues identified as non-compliant, providing additional support, guidance and awareness training to ensure they are fully informed about the scheme and equipped to respond effectively to any future safeguarding concerns.”

Like residents, we believe it's vitally important that Tamworth keeps a Post Office in the town centre.

We've been working with the Post Office for some time and have put forward proposals to host one at Marmion House, using space we own. That decision now rests with the Post Office, but we're also exploring other options, including at Ankerside, and we'll keep doing everything we can to support a positive outcome for the town.

We've also learned that the Post Office at Ventura is also set to close, as its host store is closing on the 30 September. The Post Office is now advertising for an alternative site through its website, www.runapostoffice.co.uk and applications will be carefully considered.

🔊Tamworth Borough Council is inviting residents and visitors to discover more about the town’s history through two free events taking place as part of this year’s Heritage Open Days.

📅Taking place on Thursday 17 September and Saturday 19 September at the pop-up museum and art gallery in Ankerside Shopping Centre, the events will give visitors the opportunity to explore original material from the Tamworth Castle Museum Archives collection, meet museum staff and volunteers, and get creative with a free clay workshop inspired by Tamworth’s ceramic heritage.

Both events are free and no pre-booking is required.

The Heritage Open Days events offer a great opportunity to discover more about Tamworth’s fascinating history, explore items from the castle’s collections and experience local heritage in new and creative ways.

🔊Tamworth Borough Council is inviting voluntary sector groups and charities to apply for a share of £118,000 Community Recovery Fund cash, as part of the latest funding round in the Spacehive crowdfunding programme.

Applications are being invited via the We Are Tamworth crowdfunding initiative, which offers groups the chance to bring ideas to life through a combination of donations from the community and grants of up to £10,000 from the council.

The crowdfunding format helps make sure council grants are directed to projects which also have the backing of local people.

📅Organisations looking for support have until September 30 to get their applications in for this particular funding round.
