The current project to protect and restore Tamworth Castle for future generations is all about tackling the deeper structural issues which have been impacting the building in one way or another for many years.

But that also means the cracks you might have seen on the surface can now be properly repaired too.

Here Mark is carrying out a crack stitch repair at the top of the staircase.

🧱 Broken bricks at the centre of the crack have been replaced with reclaimed bricks of similar style
🧱 Every fourth mortar course has been raked out
🧱 Stainless steel helical bars are inserted into those courses to reconnect and reinforce the wall
🧱 The whole area is repointed

This is just one small aspect of a major £1.9m project to secure the legacy of Tamworth Castle and the exhibitions it is home to.

When you need rubbish gone quickly, a cheap, quick deal can be hard to resist. But rogue traders can use convincing online ads and tempting offers to seem just like legitimate businesses.

So, before paying someone to take your rubbish away, ask for their licence number, check it on the Environment Agency register and make sure they’ll give you a receipt.

Remember: if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

300 years of history – and some very special residents 🦇

There’s more than historic building fabric being protected as work continues on the Grade II listed Market Street properties.

Brown long-eared bats are known to roost within the roof space of the historic properties, so specialist ecological measures are being built into the restoration project.

Bat boxes have been installed, an established roost is being retained within one of the beams, and an ecologist regularly attends the site – including when work is taking place in areas where bats could potentially be affected.
