Work to repair the paving at St Editha’s Square is starting and it’s being carried out at no cost to the council or taxpayers.

The town centre is open for business throughout.

The cracked hexagonal tiles will be removed and replaced with a surface in keeping with the rest of the square, being laid in a herringbone pattern.

To minimise disruption, at the same time, drainage improvements will be made near the former Barclays Bank and permanent gates are being installed at the Church Street and College Lane square access points. Work is expected to take around four to six weeks.

All shops and businesses on the square will be open and accessible to pedestrians the whole time, so please keep coming in and supporting your local businesses. 🛍️

For health and safety reasons, some market traders may need to temporarily relocate during the works. We’re working closely with them and market operator Bescot Promotions Ltd to find the best arrangements for everyone, and we’ll share more details on that soon.

Vehicle access to the square will be suspended during the works, but this won’t affect access to College Lane or St Editha’s Close.

We’ll keep you posted as things progress. 👷

💸Application deadline has been extended to 15 June 2026 for an historic Tamworth charity fund which was set up to help improve the lives of local residents.

Individuals and organisations are invited to apply for a share of this year’s £6,500 pot.

Tamworth Municipal Charities has been administered by Tamworth Borough Council since 1868 when it was established by philanthropists who wanted to help relieve financial hardship for local people at a time when state assistance was non-existent.
