Lara and Sarah visited Keele University Special Collections Library today to update our loan agreements.

The university hosts Tamworth's Court rolls covering 1284 to 1876. The collection includes both the Manor leet and court rolls.

It's a fascinating resource for medieval research and it was great to see how these important documents are being preserved under controlled environmental conditions and used by academics and learners.

Let's round up with some more photos of our amazing volunteers.

Here is a lovely photograph of Ralph Tildesley on 'Offa's throne' who can often be found enhancing the visitor experience in the Anglo-Saxon Mead Hall & Tudor Dining Room.

Also a group of our volunteers in the Great Hall training to deliver Guided Tours by volunteer Duncan Fitzpatrick.

Plus a photo of both Duncan and Ralph showing off some Anglo-Saxon weaponry and armour.

👏Thank you all for giving your time and extensive knowledge to help - we really appreciate you. These are just some of the wonderful group of volunteers who support in many ways here at the Castle. We are very grateful to each and everyone of them.

👻 One of the most haunting and well-known figures said to wander the dark halls of Tamworth Castle is the mysterious Black Lady.

The story begins with the first Lord Marmion, who evicted the nuns from their Abbey at Polesworth, just four miles away. In their sorrow, they prayed to their founder, St. Editha, seeking her help.

In 1139, Editha appeared in a vision to the second Lord Marmion in his bedchamber - the room that is now known as the Lady’s Chamber. She warned him that unless the nuns were returned to their rightful home, he would meet a painful and untimely death. She then struck Marmion with her crosier, leaving him to scream in terror, waking the entire castle. Fearing the prophecy might be true, the Lord sought the help of a priest and, in due course, restored the nuns to Polesworth. Historical documents confirm the eviction and reinstatement of the nuns - proof that this chilling encounter had a basis in truth.

Many have claimed to have seen her... have you?
📕 Read this story and more in our new beautifully illustrated book 'The Haunted History of Tamworth Castle'... available to buy from out gift shop or gatehouse for £3.95.

Here are the amazing Tabitha Bates & Renu Rajput helping to interpret information about the Glascote Torc - another moment showing how hard our volunteers work and the diverse support they provide to us.

The Iron Age gold alloy collar, previously on display and held in safe keeping by Birmingham Museum Trust, is now on loan to Tamworth Castle for the next 2 years, and can be seen in our Saxon Gallery.

This is just a little snapshot of some of our amazing volunteers who support in many ways here at the Castle. We are very grateful to each and everyone of our volunteers they all they help us to do.
