The competition got a little intense at our members social last night... πŸ‘€

What was supposed to be a bit of casual bowling turned into an outright scrap for pole positions! πŸ₯‡πŸ₯ˆπŸ₯‰

Chelsie for Belgrave had received a very generous gift from a resident to pass on to members that had helped out with the Local Elections campaigning. Rather than splitting the bottle between all of our active members - too many to list here! - it was decided that the champers would be offered up as a prize for our winnerπŸ₯‚

Adam Goodfellow for Castle threw a spanner in the works when he revealed his very own custom bowling ball and shoes 😟 Not to worry though, he'd opted to push that prize to 2nd place in the event that he won... No hustlers here! The inevitable happened - well done Adam πŸ₯³

After a very close 4 player fight for 2nd place, Teodor Barna and Matthias Osborne for Amington tied, kicking Cllr. Lee Wood out of the running. Sorry bud - maybe next time? πŸ˜‰

Now... onto the tiebreaker. How to decide who takes home the Lanson's? πŸ€” A basketball shootout of course! The video speaks for itself... Congratulations Teodor, and better luck next time Matthias! πŸ€

A great time had by all in attendance 😁 Commiserations to those who lost out... But after all, everybody knows it's the fun you have taking part that really countsπŸ₯°

Looking forward to the next one. Who's coming!?

Many of you will already be aware that the election for Wilnecote, Tamworth, originally due to take place earlier this month, was postponed due to the tragic passing of a candidate that had been nominated to stand. I and Tamworth Green Party have passed on our condolences to those involved.

The NEW election date has been set for Thursday 25th June. With that in mind, I believe it's time I reintroduce myself as the Green Party candidate standing for election!

Hi πŸ‘‹πŸΌ I'm Kyle...
I've lived in Tamworth for most of my life so far and I grew up in Wilnecote specifically, so know the area incredibly well. So, why am I standing to be your Green Party candidate for the Wilnecote ward, and what will I do to help you?

1) I'm standing for the Green Party as I believe that the climate crisis and cost of living go hand in hand - you can't solve either one without tackling both. People all over Tamworth and Wilnecote are struggling; The Greens are the only party committed to dealing with both issues and helping Tamworth overcome them πŸŒŽπŸ’Έ

2) Tamworth has recently received a lot of bad press and I believe that we need to deal with the societal unrest we are seeing here to move forward with a more positive outlook and deliver hope and not hate πŸ’š

3) I feel that Wilnecote has been left behind in many areas... We deserve our fair share of funding to improve local services and infrastructure that residents day-to-day lives depend on πŸ‘πŸΌ I know I can be the strong voice fighting on Wilnecote's behalf - for residents and visitors alike!

If you have made it this far, thank you for reading: it's very appreciated. Please choose Kyle Brown and on June 25th!

Tamworth Green Party has been contacted by several concerned parents of children currently in attendance at Dunstall Park Nursery. Despite living in the catchment area and their places at the feeder nursery school, 12 children have been denied admission for the upcoming intake at Dunstall Park Primary School.

We have been informed that Lee Miller, the Accounting Officer and Chief Executive Officer of The Arthur Terry Learning Partnership, responsible for Dunstall Park Primary, has been working with the parents, and has agreed to the resolution of a 1.5 form entry in principle.

Unfortunately, this resolution is currently unable to move forward without the release of funding from the council. The parents who have contacted us are understandably very stressed about the situation; as every day passes without a confirmation they remain unsure of their children’s futures.

These children have also spent a large portion of their young lives in Dunstall Park Nursery, forming bonds and relationships with peers and teachers; building their own communities.
Transitioning to Primary School is already a huge turning point and challenging time period for many children. If families are forced to start over, in new, unfamiliar schools, this could have a negative impact on them and their children.

We strongly believe that children should be able to attend a school in their local community. This resolution would mean a safer, easier route to and from school, free parents from having to manage the logistics of a complicated drop-off or pick-up, and foster independence as the children mature and are able to safely walk to school themselves.

We encourage the council to ensure this funding is secured for these children to be able to attend their local school as soon as possible, so that the parents are able to spend the next few months preparing rather than worrying.

I wanted to share my thoughts after the election on Thursday. First of all I want to send my congratulations to Hayley Coles of reform UK, although politically I am sure we are quite far apart I truly wish her luck in Amington as it's an area that means a lot to me and I do hope that we have that in common.

I would also like to send my respects to everyone else that stood regardless of the result or party, we all took a stand to try to do what we believed is best for Tamworth and I would like to believe that every person in that room Thursday night to Friday morning cares about this town and in the people in it.

I do also want to mention this is the first time the green party has stood in every ward in Tamworth, we have only just started and plan to continue to fight for this town both outside and inside elections it's important to note that we came second overall in spital ward and beat labour in another three to make a total of 4/9 where in the first year we have already proves ourselves as a left option over labour in Tamworth not just a wasted ballot.

I do also want to note that turnout for almost every ward is under 40% that means that a majority of people that aren't having a say and therefore the people that represent this town and deal with it's problems aren't chosen by all within it this is a big personal issue of mine especially because my age group of younger votes are even less likely to turnout everyone register to vote, keep informed and then turnout that's the only way you can have a strong local effect.

I would like to extend my heartfelt thank you to everyone that voted both for me but also those that spent the time out their day to vote at all, I would also like to thank all those within the green party who have been incredibly supportiveπŸ’š

I'll end it on this, I am not done the Greens are not done we aim to be there to help this town and we will continue to fight to do exactly that πŸ’š

I would like to congratulate Peter Utting of Reform UK on his victory here in Belgrave, Tamworth. I look forward to seeing his upcoming achievements on the council.

Commiserations to those who lost - we all took a chance here yesterday to stand up and ask for something different of local politics, and to stand up for what we believe in. That is something we can all be proud of πŸ’š

1st) Reform UK - 1053 votes (Elected) - Turquoise
2nd) Local Conservatives - 256 votes - Blue
3rd) Green Party - 246 votes - Green
4th) Labour Party - 217 votes - Red
5th) Liberal Democrats - 101 votes - Orange

Total ballots rejected: 10

To those of you disappointed in the results:

At a glance, this landslide victory may appear painful. As a scientist used to scrutinising data a little more closely, I'd like to highlight a few wins of our own... πŸ€“

1) HUGE VOTE SHARE INCREASE

In the local elections for this ward in 2023, candidate received just 48 votes (3.6%) - Yesterday's result (246 votes) represents a 263% increase in the vote share... THAT IS BANANAS 🍌

2) LABOUR NOT THE LEFT OPTION ANYMORE

We also beat Labour πŸ₯€ Not just here in Belgrave, but over in our 3 other target wards (Castle, Spital, and Stonydelph). With an active campaign, we have PROVED ourselves as the viable left-leaning opposition we set out to. You certainly can't knock that πŸ˜‰

This defeat is not the end of - It is our beginning. You ain't seen the last of us yet πŸ€žπŸΌπŸ’š

We would like to give our genuine congratulations to those who won yesterday, and our heartfelt commiserations goes out to every other candidate who lost.

Whilst it wasn't the result we had hoped for, every single Tamworth Green Party candidate should feel proud of the hard work they put in during their very first election campaign.

Thanks also go out to everyone who helped our candidates during the elections, as we couldn't have done this without them.

We've come a long way since our official relaunch of the local party in December; and for our first time of standing in all Wards across the Borough, we want every one of them to feel very proud for putting themselves forward and proving that we're no longer a protest vote.

This is just the beginning for the Tamworth Green Party πŸ’š
