Our Story today was, The Very Helpful Hedgehog by Rosie Wellesley. With no suitable song decided on we opened it up for a favourite tune and The Wheels on the Bus was chosen. A verse about the hedgehogs on the bus was suggested and we all had a lot of fun singing it! This morning’s story was on the theme of helping out a friend. It is a lovely tale about a little hedgehog called Isaac who, through different events that happen throughout the story, involving piles of leaves, falling apples and a hungry donkey soon discovers that having a friend to call on when needed is something special and that there are always ways of solving a problem when we have a friend to share it with. Afterwards, we decorated our hedgehog outlines with Autumn leaves and apples stuck to Isaac’s prickles! We also put out a Tuff Tray of shredded paper and Autumn leaves and the children enjoyed searching through for the hidden apples!

Libraries Week is a chance to celebrate Libraries and all they have to offer and with that in mind we decided to focus our Storytime and Craft this morning with a Library themed session. We read Lulu Loves the Library by Alanna Max which is full of facts about a little girl’s visit to the library with her Mummy. We made it quite interactive by stopping at various points during the story to relate the similarities between Lulu’s library with Taunton Library including library cards, scanners, returning and choosing new books, even the café visit afterwards! All the children listened really well and had things to say about their own visit to the library. Afterwards, the children created their own little books with puzzles and colourings to complete. We even set up a small roleplay area where the children could practise being librarians. We really enjoyed seeing the children’s enthusiasm for books and libraries.

Our next Preschool Storytime and Craft is next Wednesday, 14th October at 11am when we will be reading an Autumn themed story about a hedgehog and a donkey. Join us by calling into the library or email [email protected] to book your place.
