Can you imagine the shock if you discovered an octopus had made its home on your roof? Well, that unlikely scenario was the theme of today’s Pre School Storytime and Craft! We began by singing, Row, Row, Row Your Boat with a bonus octopus verse and then we were ready for the story; Octopus Shocktopus by Peter Bently and Steven Lenton. A humorous, colourful, rhyming story about an octopus who came to live on top of us! At first, not everyone was pleased to have the octopus there but once they discovered how handy it could be to have around to entertain and help with so many tricky jobs that the community were sad when it left. Will the octopus return and will it have one final surprise in store? After the story we made our own octopus to hang up and we think they look amazing.

Join us next week, Wednesday 24th June at 11am for another Storytime and Craft. Please e mail us at [email protected] to book your place.

We had a lot of fun today at our Pre-School Storytime and Craft session. We read a story that came all the way from Australia; a picture book that children there really enjoy so we thought we might enjoy it too. It is called Wombat Stew by Marcia K. Vaughan. It tells the story of a very clever Dingo, who catches a fat wombat and decides to make a tasty wombat stew for lunch. As the Dingo happily prepares the ingredients, he sings a little rhyme, “Wombat stew, Wombat stew, Crunchy, munchy, for my lunchy, Wombat stew!” We all practised saying the words a few times and joined in with the rhyme during the story. The other animals in the bush, Platypus, Emu, Echidna and Koala were quick to suggest other ingredients to make the stew taste that extra bit special including, big blobs of mud, feathers and flies! As we read the story, we enjoyed adding all the ingredients to the cooking pot and giving it a big stir! Will poor Wombat end up in the stew or will his friends have a final surprise in store for the greedy dingo? After the story it was time for our Craft activity and today, we made our own billycan of stew collage using our colouring, cutting and sticking skills.

Our next Storytime and Craft is on Wednesday 17th June at 11am. If you would like to join us for another story and craft activity then please e mail us at [email protected] to book your place.

This week has brought us all some much needed rain for the plants and gardens – and this was the theme for our Storytime & Craft session today for our pre-school children.
We started with a couple of traditional rhymes that linked in with the story, ‘Round and Round the Garden’ and ‘Two Little Dickie Birds’ which everyone joined in beautifully together.

Then we shared the book ‘Pip and Posy, The Friendly Snail’. Pip and Posy were the best of friends, Pip has a quiet nature and Posy loves noisy activities – they do fall out occasionally!
But they always make up afterwards. This is a gentle book about valuing each other’s differences, and so, a really lovely message for the children.
We then went on to make our own colourful flowers to take home. Take a look at the variety of creations 😊

Remember to guarantee your place on our weekly pre-school Storytime & Craft session (every Wednesday at 11-11:45am) by email to [email protected], or just speak to a member of Staff

See you next time
