Gem Bridge

Gem Bridge Gem Bridge is a bridge that stands on the site of an old Brunel viaduct. It is a five span steel truss bridge with a precast concrete deck.

It was officaially opened in September 2012 as a part of the cycle route NCN 27, Drake's Trail. Gem Bridge is a 200 metre long footbridge / Cycle bridge that spans the River Walkahm some 24 metres from the river level. The scheme was completed in May 2012 and officially opened by Angela Rippon in September 2012.

It's taken a good few years to get to this stage, but I can finally say - It's almost there.

To top it all we had the lovely Angela Rippon on site today; just as I was telling her about the local wildlife, a Kingfisher, two Mallards and a Dipper appeared along the river - "Cue the Deer."

Come and visit in the summer if you fancy exploring the wilds of West Devon.
