Last week, passive drugs dog Skye, along with her handler PC Steve Waters visited Tavistock College with West Devon Youth Intervention Officer PC Helen Head and Neighbourhood PCSO Debbie Hollinson.

The visits to the classrooms were educational and gave students the chance to see Skye in action and learn about the important role the canines play in keeping our residents of all ages safe.

Thank you to all the students and staff for their numerous questions and very warm welcome.

Police have been responding to a report of a rave in the area of Witherdon Wood this morning 22nd March.

Various Police resources have been utilised to disperse the event and we will be continuing patrols through the area throughout the day to ensure there are no further issues for the community.

This is a timely reminder for residents across the West Devon area that as the weather is improving we seasonally experience an increase in this type of activity. If you have concerns that there is an Unlicensed Music Event taking place, please inform Police at the earliest opportunity so we can ensure safety of the public and reduce any nuisance experienced by residents in an affected area.

Some indicators of these events can include

Loud continuous music

Individuals cutting locks to gates / trespassing on land

Significant increase of both pedestrian / vehicle activity

Power generators and / or sound equipment being transported to rural areas

If you have information about an event such as this being planned in future then you can share this information via our force website

Today the Tavistock Neighbourhood Police Team went to Lambing Live at Greenwell Farm, Meavy. It was a great to spend the time with the farming community, to hear to what's important to them but also to engage with visitors about issues such as livestock worrying, particularly as the laws have recently changed. And we got to cuddle some newborn lambs.

Following reports from Bere Alston last night regarding suspected fraudulent door to door charity collections for Woodside Animal Welfare Trust, officers have visited the area this afternoon, spoken to residents and viewed CCTV.

We can confirm that the collections were for Woodgreen Pets Charity and were legitimate. Both charities have been spoken to.

If you are ever in any doubt about people asking for money at your door, do not feel pressured to give. Do report to police if you have concerns.

We would like to thank the residents who assisted with our enquiries and who helped with CCTV footage which helped us clarify the situation quickly and report back to reassure residents.

A 17-year-old has been charged with attempted theft of a motor vehicle and assaulting an emergency worker following an increase in reports of vehicle interference in Bere Alston.
They have been remanded in Police custody to appear in Court on Tuesday 17th February. The individual will not be returning to the area thereafter.

As local Policing Sergeant I am aware that recent events in the village have caused a significant concern amongst the local community. I would like to reassure you that we identified others that were initially suspected of also being involved and can confirm that our enquiries have satisfied that the 2 further males in question have been eliminated from our enquiries. I cannot go into further details due to reporting restrictions related to juvenile suspects and ongoing legal proceedings.

Speculation on social media has not been helpful in this instance and in future I would appeal to the public to contact Police directly if they have information to assist enquiries or have concerns they wish to discuss. Prejudice of our investigations through misinformation can lead to Police being unable to provide justice for victims and less able to keep our communities safe.

We thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant Tom Ottley
