CROWDFUNDER UPDATE: WE’VE HIT 22%! 💚♿🌱

We wanted to share a quick update on our upcoming Sponsored Wheelchair Push and say an absolute thank you to everyone who has supported us so far. Thanks to your kindness over the last week, we have officially moved from 16% up to 22% of our goal! Every single donation has given our volunteer Harry a massive booster as he prepares for the challenge.

With 8 days left on the clock, we are now entering the final stretch of the fundraiser.

As a small charity zoo, community-driven challenges like this play an important role in helping us maintain our unique woodland sanctuary, support our dedicated staff, and continue our vital work with rare, critically endangered species—including our famous new red-ruffed lemur babies!

If you’ve enjoyed visiting us, followed our recent national news, or simply value the conservation work we do worldwide, we would love for you to be a part of this journey.

How you can get involved this week:
🌱 Contribute: Donations of any size add up quickly and make a tangible difference to a small charity like ours.
📣 Share: Simply hitting the 'Share' button helps us introduce Shaldon to new friends and wildlife lovers who might want to support the cause.

Thank you again to everyone who has backed us, shared our posts, or cheered us on. Let’s see how close we can get to the finish line over these next 8 days! 💪🌿

MAKING SHALDON ACCESSIBLE FOR EVERYONE 🌿👀🦮✨

We have some very proud news to share from behind the scenes this week! Our team has officially completed Sighted Guide partnership training with Guide Dogs UK.

Because we care for highly sensitive, rare, and endangered species in close proximity, we unfortunately cannot allow assistance dogs on site to ensure the safety and welfare of both the dogs and our resident animals. But we never want that to stand in the way of someone experiencing Shaldon Wildlife Trust.

That’s why our staff have undertaken this specialised training. We want to ensure that blind and visually impaired visitors can navigate our unique woodland site safely, confidently, and with an immersive, expert guide by their side. From detailed descriptions of our animals' antics to being safe led around our sometimes challenging site.

If you or a loved one would benefit from a sighted guide during your next visit to Shaldon, we would love to facilitate this for you!

👇 To find out more or to arrange a supported visit with one of our trained team members, drop us an email or call us on 01626 872234.

WOW. JUST WOW! ❤️ POPULARITY LEVEL: OFF THE CHARTS!

We are still absolutely blown away by the incredible wave of love you showed our new baby Red Ruffed Lemurs after their big national press debut last week! These 4 little fluffballs got coverage across the world!

Since so many of you are now officially invested in these little rockstars, we wanted to give you a quick Monday update on how they are getting on behind the scenes.

A few fun facts about our famous quadruplets:
✨ The Nesting Phase: Unlike many other lemur species where babies cling to mom's fur from day one, Red Ruffed Lemurs actually keep their newborns tucked safely inside a nest. Mom will carry them around in her mouth when she needs to move them!
✨ Growing at Warp Speed: They are already starting to taste-test solid foods (peas seem to be a big hit!) and they are getting braver by the second, testing out their climbing skills under mom's very watchful eye.
✨ A Vital Victory: Seeing them thrive is the ultimate reward for our keeping team. With their species being listed as Critically Endangered, these four are incredibly important ambassadors for global conservation.

15 DAYS TO GO: WE NEED A LITTLE PUSH! ⏱️♿🌱

We are officially entering the final countdown. There are just 15 days left on our Crowdfunder to support our upcoming Sponsored Wheelchair Push, and to be completely transparent our donations have hit a bit of a standstill!

As a small charity zoo, we don't have massive corporate backing. Everything we achieve happens because of people like you. And right now, we need our community to help us cross the finish line.

The money raised from this challenge goes directly towards the zoos conservation work, to support our voluntary Zoo Food project and to our friends at the Little Fireface Project.

If you love what we do, have enjoyed visiting us over the holidays, or want to support global wildlife conservation from right here in Devon, please consider pitching in today.

How you can help right now:
💰 Donate: Even the price of a cup of coffee makes a massive difference when we all band together.
📣 Share: If you can't donate right now, hitting the 'Share' button on this post helps us reach new eyes before the clock runs out!

Let's make these final 15 days count! 💪💚

SURPRISE! 🚨 WE HAVE HUGE NEWS… AND IT’S ALREADY HIT THE NATIONAL HEADLINES!

We are absolutely thrilled to officially introduce the newest, rarest, and currently most famous arrivals at Shaldon: we have 4 baby Red Ruffed Lemurs! 🎉👶

While this is their very first appearance on our social media pages, the secret is already out. Our tiny new arrivals have caused such a stir that they’ve already hit the national press today and you may have heard our director of BBC radio yesterday talking about them! 📰✨

But they aren't just pretty faces. Red Ruffed Lemurs are Critically Endangered in the wild in Madagascar, facing severe threats from habitat loss. Every single birth is a monumental victory for the European breeding programme.

Mom, Eka, is doing an incredible job, and the babies are already starting to explore, climb, and cause a little bit of mischief. You'll sometimes be able to see them exploring their indoor habitat under the watchful eye of Eka.

They are growing fast and becoming more active by the day, so come along and see our national treasures in real life!

STEP INSIDE THE WORLD OF THE BINTURONG! 🍿🐾🌿

Since we recently introduced our brand-new Binturong Experience, we have been absolutely thrilled by your amazing response! If you missed our initial announcement, you can now get closer than ever before to one of the most unique and beloved species we care for at Shaldon.

If you are looking for the ultimate bucket-list treat, a unique birthday gift, or an unforgettable day out, our newly launched encounter is the perfect wildlife moment to book this summer.

What's included?
✨ Go behind the scenes with one of our expert keepers to learn all about this rare species.
✨ Step right inside their habitat for an exclusive, face-to-face meeting.

Binturongs face severe threats in the wild from habitat loss and hunting. By booking this encounter, you are directly funding our vital conservation work and proving that we really are Small Zoos Making a Big Difference. 🌏💚

Slots for this new experience are limited, so don't miss out on securing your date!

BABY UPDATE: ALREADY GROWING! 🍼🐒✨

We know so many of you fell in love with our news last week, so we couldn't resist sharing this quick short clip, captured by one of our volunteers Lissi, of our newest little squirrel monkey!

As you can see, the baby is doing incredibly well and is starting to get very curious—peeking out at the world and shifting around on Maxi's back. Maxi is being an absolute supermom and keeping a very watchful eye on her brave little explorer.

Just in case your Sunday evening plans involved getting cozy and having a snack... our pygmy slow loris is right there with you!

Capturing these beautiful, nocturnal primates active and eating in our nocturnal house is always a treat. They might move slowly, but they certainly don't miss a beat when it comes to their favourite snacks.
