🔥 It’s been a busy start to August for our crews! 🚒

While many people are enjoying the summer holidays, our firefighters have been hard at work responding to incidents and keeping our communities safe.

🚒 Could You Be Teignmouth’s Next On-Call Firefighter? 🚒

Our town is protected by a dedicated team of 17 on-call firefighters who respond to emergencies day and night. Historically, we have had a larger team which helped us maintain 24/7 fire cover more easily, but recruiting and retaining enough firefighters is becoming increasingly challenging.

We know there is plenty of interest in joining us. Many people have messaged us, visited the station, and submitted applications. Unfortunately, not everyone who enquires is eligible to become an on-call firefighter.

So, if you:

✅ Live and/or work within 5 minutes of Teignmouth Fire Station
✅ Can provide daytime availability (weekend availability is particularly valuable)
✅ Want to serve your community and make a real difference
✅ Are looking for a rewarding challenge alongside your existing job or commitments

Being an on-call firefighter is unlike any other role. You’ll receive full training, gain valuable skills, become part of a close-knit team, and play a vital role in protecting Teignmouth and the surrounding communities.

After 10 years of dedicated service, we say a fond farewell to Josh as he moves on to his next chapter.

Josh has been a committed and dependable member of Teignmouth Fire Station, serving not only the community he lives in but the wider area with pride. Over the years he has attended countless incidents and community events, always bringing professionalism, reliability, and a strong team spirit.

At his final training night, we were pleased to be joined by his fiancé and parents as we thanked Josh for his service and presented him with a few gifts to mark the occasion.

Josh, thank you for everything you’ve given to the station and the community over the past decade. You’ve been a solid member of the team and will be greatly missed.

We wish you all the very best for the future and remember, you’ll always be welcome back anytime.

Our colleague Jonathan is taking on the TCS London Marathon today – his very first one! 🏃‍♂️

He’s just about to set off in his wave, with nerves understandably running high, but he’s ready for the challenge ahead.

He is running to raise money for the Fire Fighters Charity and is incredibly close to his target, currently at £2,270 of £2,500 💪

Following the recent fire at Teignmouth Library, we want to provide some context and be open with our community.

Unfortunately, on this occasion Teignmouth Fire Station was unable to respond due to a shortage of available crew. While we always strive to provide a 24/7 response, this isn’t always possible. At times crews may already be committed to another incident or we may not have enough firefighters immediately available to mobilise safely.

To attend an incident, we require a minimum crew of four firefighters. This includes a qualified driver and another trained in incident command, along with two trained in breathing apparatus. When this incident was reported, we were one firefighter short of that minimum requirement.

On-call firefighters are the backbone of the Fire & Rescue Service, not just here in Teignmouth but across the UK and much of Europe. These are highly trained, dedicated individuals who balance their roles alongside their primary jobs and personal commitments to protect their communities.

We are actively recruiting and have new applicants currently progressing through the process, but we still need more people to come forward. If you live or work within the Teignmouth area, can provide day & weekend cover and are interested in making a real difference, please consider joining us.

These empty spaces represent more than just missing kit, they represent the need for more on-call firefighters here at Teignmouth Fire Station.

We’re currently looking for dedicated people from our local community to join the team and help protect Teignmouth and the surrounding area. You don’t need previous fire service experience, just commitment, teamwork, and a willingness to learn.
