Bank Holiday! | Have a safe TRIP

Whether you’re leaving the south west or coming to visit, have a safe and enjoyable summer holiday road trip.

Follow the T.R.I.P. checks every driver needs to perform to keep themselves, their passengers and other road users safe.

TOP UP your fuel or battery, oil and screen wash
REST with planned stops of at least 15 minutes every two hours
INSPECT tyre pressure, tread depth and for cracks or tears before setting out
PREPARE for all weather conditions…it may be very hot, or we may have rain and thunderstorms

We’ll add that SPEED limits are there for your safety, they are not a target. Drive within the limit and to prevailing road, weather and traffic conditions. So, TRIPS: as easy to remember as TRIP.

🚗 Have a great bank holiday! 😎

Eclipse! | Keep yourself and everyone else safe

😎 Sound advice about watching the eclipse on Wednesday from David Jones, Consultant Ophthalmologist with the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust. Click on the link.

🚗 If you are traveling to a vantage point to watch, please park safely and responsibly in official car parks and marked areas, don’t cause an obstacle by parking on verges, kerbs or pavements. Emergency vehicles need access everywhere at all times 🚑

🔥 Avoid the use of barbecues and be careful with disposing of ci******es, especially in countryside locations – it’s tinder dry out there. Please take your litter home with you.

☀️ Enjoy this rare and stunning event safely and responsibly.

***This Sunday*** You are invited to come along and have your bike security marked for free at Haldon Forest near Exeter. One of our friendly Police Community Support Officers will be at the mountain bike centre between 10am and 2pm on Sun 9 August. We look forward to meeting lots of cyclists and giving out crime prevention tips. The bike marking system means that if a bike is stolen police can check the Bike Register database and return the cycle to its rightful owner. Happy cycling!

Parents, we repeat our appeal. Do you know where your children are and what they are up to?

Yesterday we had at least four reports of young people accessing abandoned buildings around Teignmouth, and being abusive towards others when challenged.

Not only is urban exploring dangerous but verbal abuse and threatening behaviour is unacceptable.

We are working to identify those involved and get those buildings properly secured.

There is a section 35 dispersal order in place this evening covering Teignmouth and Shaldon. Any person acting in an anti-social manner will be dispersed from the area and arrested if they return.

We had a good time meeting all the visitors at the Den's blue light event earlier this week as part of Carnival Week. Thanks to all those who came along to have their photo taken with the Force Tractor and chat to some of our officers. We handed out lots of stickers and flags to the young ones and explained our roles as they tried on police hats and had a sit in the back of our van. Hopefully we have found ourselves some new recruits 😃 On a more serious note our Rural Affairs officer spoke to parents about topical issues such as livestock worrying and fly tipping. Follow this page for info on future events where you can meet us.
