A man has been given a nine-year sentence for a number of domestic abuse related offences against four women, including the r**e of one of his victims.

Joshua Turner, of Hadley in Telford, was handed the sentence at Shrewsbury Crown Court on Friday (28 August) after previously pleading guilty to r**e, grievous bodily harm, perverting the course of justice and two counts of coercive control.

The court heard how the 31-year-old subjected his victims to years of abuse while in relationships with them.

The judge was told how Turner kicked one of the women in her stomach when she was pregnant. He also broke her arm during a separate argument and refused to call an ambulance, threatening her not to tell anyone how she had received the injury.

Another victim said how she was not allowed to see her family and friends, and at the start at their relationship Turner would bombard her with phone calls while she was out with friends.

A third victim bravely reported to police that Turner had r**ed her, which in a victim impact statement read out to the judge said it causes her to have flashbacks.

A fourth woman told the judge how she reported Turner's abuse to police and while she was in the police station he called her 50 times. In a statement also read out in court she told the judge Turner continued to contact her via letters and phone calls while on remand in prison threatening her to drop the charges.

In June 2025 Turner pleaded guilty to coercive control, and perverting the cause of justice. Then in October 2025 on the first day of his trial for the other two offences he pleaded guilty to r**e, coercive control and grievous bodily harm.

Turner was then remanded in custody to await sentencing, which took place on Friday (28 August) where he was handed a nine-year sentence, with a further two years to be served on an extended licence.

The judge also ordered Turner to be placed on a sexual harm prevention order, which now means he must inform police of any new relationships. He was also given a restraining order against each victim, meaning he cannot contact them.

Detective Sergeant Becky Jasper said: "Turner subjected four women to sustained and controlling abuse over a number of years, causing significant physical and emotional harm. His actions were cruel, manipulative and have had a lasting impact on each of his victims.

"I would like to commend the bravery of the women who came forward and reported Turner's offending. We know how difficult it can be for victims of domestic abuse and sexual violence to speak to police, particularly when they have been subjected to threats, coercion and controlling behaviour.

"Thanks to their courage, Turner has been held accountable for his crimes and is now facing a significant prison sentence. I hope this outcome provides reassurance that reports of domestic abuse and sexual offences will be taken seriously, and that we will do everything we can to support victims and bring offenders to justice."

CHARGED | A man has been charged in connection with an armed robbery in Wellington, a commercial burglary in Wellington and a knifepoint robbery in Albrighton.

Mark Gillon, of no fixed abode, was charged with the following offences:

• Two counts of robbery
• Possession of a knife blade / sharp pointed article in a public place
• Possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence
• Possession of a firearm while committing offence or being arrested
• Burglary other than dwelling with intent to steal

The 43-year-old has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Telford Magistrates Court today (Friday 28 August).

Officers investigating a robbery in Telford have released CCTV images of two men they believe may be able to help with enquiries.

On Sunday 16 August officers were called to New Street in Wellington following reports of a robbery. Enquiries show the incident happened between 5.45pm and 6.15pm, where two men approached the victim who was sat opposite Greggs.

The men approached the victim before assaulting him by punching and stomping on him and taking his bank card along with £20. The men then fled the scene.

Officers have now released CCTV images of two people who were in the area at the time and believe may be able to help with their enquiries.

Officers in Telford have seized 19 illegal e-scooters and one offroad bike as they crackdown on anti-social behaviour in the town centre.

Following a number of reports from the public about e-scooters being ridden dangerously around Telford’s town centre and shopping centre, officers carried out an operation this week to take as many off the streets.

On Monday evening (24 August) officers from Telford’s Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNT) seized six e-scooters, and then a further eight on Tuesday (25 August) as well as an offroad bike across the town centre.

Then yesterday (Wednesday 26 August) Operation Spree took place across the borough, which targets people riding offroad motorbikes illegally. During the operation five e-scooters were seized by officers.

West Mercia Police were supported by Staffordshire Police and Telford & Wrekin Council during the operation.

Sergeant Matt Corfield, from SNT, said: "We have received a number of reports from members of the public about e-scooters being ridden dangerously in Telford town centre, causing concern for shoppers, visitors and local businesses.

"These seizures demonstrate our commitment to tackling anti-social behaviour and taking action against those who choose to use vehicles illegally or irresponsibly. Some of the e-scooters we recovered are capable of reaching significant speeds, which can pose a serious risk to both riders and pedestrians.

"We want to remind people that privately owned e-scooters cannot legally be used on public roads, pavements, cycle lanes or pedestrianised areas, and anyone found doing so risks having their vehicle seized by police.

"We will continue carrying out proactive operations across Telford and the wider borough to keep our communities safe, and we would encourage anyone with concerns about anti-social behaviour or illegal vehicle use to report it to us."

Telford & Wrekin Councillor Paul Davis, Cabinet Member for Strong Communities, Local Pride and Veterans, added: “We welcome the proactive work taking place to address concerns about the unsafe use of e-scooters in public spaces.

“Many residents are surprised to learn that privately owned e-scooters cannot currently be used in most public places, despite being widely available to buy.

“Raising awareness of the rules is an important part of helping people stay safe and avoid inadvertently breaking the law.

“We will continue to work with partners to support initiatives that help keep Telford and Wrekin's town centres, neighbourhoods and public spaces safe and enjoyable for residents, businesses and visitors alike.”

“I would also like to thank the police for their proactive work in addressing this issue and helping to keep our communities safe.”

While e-scooters are available to buy, they are currently illegal to use on public roads, pavements, cycle lanes and pedestrian-only areas unless they are part of an approved Government rental scheme. There are currently no legal e-scooter rental schemes in Shropshire.

Anyone found riding a privately owned e-scooter in public places risks having it seized.

Officers have issued a 48-hour dispersal order in response to an increase in anti-social behaviour in the Sutton Hill area of Telford.

The order came into effect at 7.10pm yesterday (Wednesday 26 August) AND will remain in place until 7pm tomorrow (Friday 28 August). The section 35 Dispersal Order notice under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime & Policing Act 2014 is for the Southgate area.

While the order is in place it provides extra powers to police officers to exclude individuals from the area who cause anti-social behaviour.

The dispersal powers can also be used to remove those committing crime and disorder not only when they have occurred or are occurring, but when they are deemed likely to occur and in any locality.

Sergeant Matt Corfield, from Telford Central Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "We have seen an increase in reports of anti-social behaviour in the Sutton Hill area, and this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated.

"The dispersal order gives officers additional powers to deal with those causing nuisance, disorder and distress within the community. We want residents to feel safe in their neighbourhoods, and we will continue to take robust action against anyone involved in anti-social behaviour.

"I would encourage local people to report any incidents to us so that we can build an accurate picture of what is happening and take the appropriate action."

A man has been arrested in connection with a robbery at a bank in Wellington on Monday (25 August).

At around 11.39am officers were called to reports that a man entered Nationwide on New Street saying he had a firearm before taking around £2,000 in cash.

No one was injured during the incident and the man left the scene before officers arrived.

Yesterday (Wednesday 26 August) officers arrested a 43-year-old man on suspicion of robbery in Wolverhampton. He remains in police custody as enquiries continue.

He has also been arrested on suspicion of robbery in connection with an incident at the Co-op in Albrighton on Friday (21 August), and suspicion of burglary relating to a break-in at a café in Wellington on Friday 3 July.

Detective Sergeant Craig Ryder said: "We understand incidents of this nature can be concerning for local communities; however, I would like to reassure residents that a swift investigation has led to the arrest of a man in connection with Monday’s robbery. Thankfully, no one was injured during the incident.

"Our enquiries remain ongoing while the suspect remains in custody, and I would like to thank the public for their support and patience while officers continue their work."
