We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came along to today’s Armed Forces Community Support Lunch at The Wakes. It was wonderful to bring together serving personnel, veterans and armed forces families for an afternoon of support, conversation and community.

The event created a welcoming and relaxed environment for people to connect with one another, with live music helping to set a warm and enjoyable atmosphere throughout the day.

We’re very grateful to the organisations who attended and shared their expertise and support: Severn Trent Water, the Battle Back Centre at Lilleshall, Models for Heroes, Telford & Wrekin CVS, Citizens Advice and Telford & Wrekin Council Armed Forces Outreach.

Thank you also to Councillor Stephen Reynolds, Councillor Hilda Rhodes and Cllr Gilly Latham-Reynolds for Oakengates and Ketley Bank. Their Councillors’ Pride Fund, alongside partnership working with the Telford & Wrekin Armed Forces Community Outreach Team, made this event possible.

It was fantastic to see such a strong turnout. We’re already looking ahead to our next Armed Forces Community Support Lunch later in the year - keep an eye out for further details coming soon!

Yesterday, the Mayor, Councillor Stephen Reynolds, paid a special visit to The Lord Hill Pub to honour Margaret Robinson (Maggs) for her contributions to the local community.

Margaret was presented with a certificate in recognition of her outstanding commitment to the community, demonstrated through many years of dedicated charitable fundraising.

Her recent efforts alone highlight her incredible generosity and dedication:
🌻 £1,050 raised for the Sunflower Appeal during the Easter Campaign
🎉 £1,300 raised at the Charity Weekend Fête and Pool Competition held on 30–31 May 2026

⚠️ Heading to open water to cool off? Please think twice.

Adults are not exempt from drowning risk – in fact, many open water deaths involve adults who underestimate the dangers.

🌊 Rivers, lakes, reservoirs and quarries can hide strong currents, sudden drops and cold spots

❄️ Cold water shock can affect even strong, confident swimmers, regardless of fitness
🍺 Alcohol and swimming don't mix – it affects judgement and ability

🛟 If you see someone in trouble in water: Call 999. Don't go in after them – throw something that floats instead

Stick to designated, lifeguarded swimming spots wherever possible.

🌿 Oakengates Community Action Team Update 🌿
Our fantastic Community Action Team has been hard at work making a real difference across the area! 💪

Over the past couple of weeks, they’ve been:
✅ Cutting back overhanging branches
✅ Trimming hedges to keep pathways clear
✅ Edging kerbs and tidying up our streets
✅ Improving visibility and accessibility for everyone

Temporary Road Closure - Church Road, Wrockwardine Wood

National Grid are planning to undertake tree trimming works. The work is set to commence on Friday 24th July 2026 and will last for a duration of 1 day between the hours of 09:00am and 17:00pm with an end date of Friday 24th July 2026.

The diversion route for vehicular traffic travelling in all directions will be signed on site.
