🌍 Good luck, Ffion! 🇰🇪

One of our work experience team members, Ffion, is heading off on an incredible four-week volunteering trip to Kenya with her school.

During her time there, she'll be helping local communities with building projects, supporting schools, learning from Maasai women, taking part in animal welfare activities, and spending time with local children. She'll also be exploring Kenya's beautiful landscapes, including a two-day safari in Tsavo National Park!

When we asked why she wanted to go, Ffion said:

"I wanted to see life from someone else's point of view, not just my own. I want to experience things you can't learn from a screen."

Ffion worked incredibly hard to fundraise for the trip and is planning to keep a journal each day so she can share her experiences when she gets home.

We're so proud of you, Ffion, and we wish you an amazing adventure. We can't wait to hear all about it when you return! 💚

🌬️ Clean Air Day

20 June is Clean Air Day — the UK’s largest campaign dedicated to improving air quality and understanding the impact of air pollution on our health.

We often take the air we breathe for granted.

But air pollution is one of the biggest environmental risks to health, affecting both the body and mind in ways many people don’t realise.

Poor air quality has been linked to:
🫁 Respiratory conditions such as asthma
❤️ Cardiovascular health issues
🧠 Fatigue, headaches, and reduced concentration
🌱 Long-term impacts on overall wellbeing

It can affect everyone, but some people are more vulnerable, including children, older adults, and people with existing health conditions.

The important thing is that air quality isn’t just something “out there” — it’s influenced by everyday choices and environments.

Simple actions can make a difference, such as:
🚶 Walking or cycling for short journeys
🚗 Reducing unnecessary car use
🌿 Spending time in green spaces
🏡 Improving indoor air quality by ventilating rooms

Clean air is essential for healthy living, learning, working, and wellbeing.

This Clean Air Day is a reminder that small changes, when made by many people, can contribute to healthier communities and a healthier planet.

✊🏾 Juneteenth

19 June is Juneteenth — a day that marks the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates freedom, resilience, and progress.

Juneteenth originates from 19 June 1865, when enslaved African Americans in Texas were finally informed of their freedom, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed.

It is a reminder that freedom and equality have not always been experienced equally or at the same time.

Juneteenth is both a moment of reflection and a celebration.

It recognises:
✊🏾 Freedom and liberation
✊🏾 Resilience and strength
✊🏾 Community and culture
✊🏾 Progress toward equality

But it also encourages reflection on the ongoing impact of inequality and discrimination that still exists today in many forms.

Understanding history helps us better understand the present.

Experiences of discrimination, exclusion, and inequality can have a lasting impact on individuals and communities, including effects on mental health, wellbeing, and opportunity.

This is why awareness matters.

Juneteenth is a reminder that equality, dignity, and justice are ongoing commitments — not just historical milestones.

This day encourages us to learn, listen, and continue working towards more inclusive and fair communities for everyone.

Because freedom, in its fullest sense, should be experienced by all.
