We were disappointed yesterday, Unfortunately Tenby Coastguard were unable to attend the annual Fireman’s Carnival, we had the truck and our volunteers ready to go with their collection buckets, until 16:10 when our pagers went off. By the time we were stood down, the carnival had already begun. We hope Tenby Fire Station had a successful day along with Tenby Lifeboats RNLI and all those involved, it looks like we missed a truly spectacular turnout. It’s an honour to be asked to lead the carnival and We hope to see you all next year! #2025

On Monday 22nd Training took place on the South Beach Tenby for the Tenby Coastguard team.
The training exercise was for the team to practice an emergency rescue involving off-roading, so what better place to do it than in the sand! The team faced pressure with many spectators around them and the forever-changing weather that Tenby seems to be faced with this year! The training started off with full visibility to eventually a very dark and misty view, however even with the tricky weather, the team successfully completed the training. It was a productive evening.

Last night (15/7/24) Tenby coastguard with Tenby Lifeboats RNLI and took part in a joint exercise to train with the island residents in a 1st aid situation where a visitor has had a fall and has a suspected broken ankle, the residents jumped into action with raising the alarm with the coastguard operations room and starting 1st aid while the coastguard and lifeboats crew muster on the mainland, once all equipment and team were aboard Tenby alb launched and headed towards the island due to low tides, Tenby ilb was use to then transfer team and equipment to the island, located casualty where casualty was triaged and pain relief administrated by crew of Tenby ilb, once casualty was comfortable was packaged onto a stretcher and carried across the dunes and beach to be transported back to main land, this was a very important and helpful exercise between the residents, lifeboats and the H.M coastguard. Thanks to everybody involved and we are grateful for the RNLI for the use of their boats and the residents for their time.

Angle RNLI tasked as person jumps 40 metres from road bridge at Neyland.

Angle All-Weather Lifeboat was requested to launch at 7:09pm last night following a call from the Coastguard reporting a person on the wrong side of the handrails on the bridge over Westfield Pill, Neyland.

As the crew were mustering, a further update was received that the person had now jumped off the 40 meter bridge, and was in the water.

The lifeboat launched and made best speed towards Neyland, with the crew preparing the Y boat and casualty care equipment whilst en route.

As the lifeboat was approaching Neyland, the Coastguard informed the crew that the casualty had been recovered from the water by members of the public and was now in the care of the Ambulance Service, Fire Service and Police officers.

The crew were stood down, where the lifeboat returned to station and was readied for further service by 8pm. Dale, St Govan’s and Tenby Coastguard Rescue Teams were also tasked to assist.

End of an era at Tenby lifeboat station

Today marks the end of an era, as Coxswain Phil John steps down after 30 years as crew – 14 of them as Coxswain. With many lives saved and countless others assisted during his time, the replacement Coxswain will have big shoes to fill once appointed.

From all the crew at the station - thanks for your service Phil, it’s been a pleasure. Thanks for being a great leader over the years – you will be missed. Good luck in whatever you do next.

Pictured is Phil (right) handing over his pager to Dan Young, who will be standing in until a full-time replacement Coxswain is appointed and will be supported by the other deputy Coxswains.

*weather was forecast poor with rain and quite heavy wind across the slipway
Weather improved enormously and we went ahead and the conditions were perfect ~ I was just hoping this brave crew were not called 'out on a shout' as I placed the stations tall stepladder.
As with all the other Tenby and surrounding areas emergency services the town is so rightly proud of the crew, launching authority and the wonderful lifeboat itself the RNLB Haydn Miller and inshore lifeboat Kathleen Ann.

Been a pleasure working with amazing coxswain and his crew good luck to the future from all at Tenby coastguard

Tenby lifeboat Coxswain Phil John announces his retirement.

Tenby’s Lifeboat Coxswain, Phil John recently announced to the crew that he will stand down as full-time Coxswain in May.

Lifeboats run in Phil’s family, with his dad Johnny having served on the crew before him and his brother Rob is a deputy Coxswain at Tenby. Phil joined the crew in 1994, completing 16 years as a volunteer, before becoming full-time Coxswain in 2010 when then Coxswain Alan Thomas retired. In all, Phil will have completed a huge 30 years’ service to the RNLI this year, with 14 of them as Coxswain.

With many lives saved during his time, Phil will be sorely missed at the station.

From all the officials, all the crew and all the support volunteers at the station, we thank Phil for his support and leadership over the years and wish him good luck in whatever his future holds.
