Hotbuckle present: Return of The Native

Popular Shropshire based Hotbuckle Productions are bringing their latest adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s classic to Smallhythe this Summer.

Hotbuckle Theatre returns with its unmistakable blend of wit, invention, and emotional clarity in a bold new staging of Thomas Hardy’s The Return of the Native. With their trademark physicality and rich storytelling, Hotbuckle breathe fresh life into Hardy’s windswept world of passion, rivalry, and fate. Expect a production that captures both the sweeping drama of Egdon Heath and the intimate, human struggles at the heart of the novel.

Hotbuckle's shows are always popular at The Barn so advance booking recommended!

It’s been something special hearing live music fill the Ellen Terry Barn Theatre over the past two weekends. First we welcomed with 'As the Snow Falls', bringing songs and storytelling to our stage. Then, last week, Brothers Broke took us on a journey through the sounds and stories of Dylan and Lennon in 'When Judas Met John'.

A wonderful reminder of how powerful music can be in this space.

Thank you to our wonderful audiences, who were warm, engaged, and captivated throughout both shows. Wishing both companies the very best as they continue their tours.

A roaring start to our Bristol run - Falstaff opened last night at the wonderful Alma Tavern & Theatre to a brilliantly warm and lively audience. Laughter, mischief, and just the right amount of glorious excess filled the room… exactly as the old rogue would have wanted.

If you missed opening night, there’s one final chance to catch the fun this evening. Expect wit, wine, and a larger-than-life Falstaff in full flight - but be quick, tickets are going fast and we’d hate for you to miss out.

Join us for a fittingly raucous finale

This Thursday at the Barn...

Listed by Counter Culture as one of "five shows not to be missed at this year's Edinburgh Fringe," we are thrilled to confirm this popular and excellently reviewed show will be playing at the Ellen Terry Barn Theatre on 7th May 2026. Written and presented by Irish duo Brothers Broke, the brothers strip bare a carefully selected repertoire of Dylan and Lennon songs, and present them raw and unplugged around a story of the influence, jealousy, parody and respect that each artist had for the other.

This engaging show compares the like-minded and socially conscious lyrics of Dylan and Lennon and deals with the relevance of their political messaging, written up to sixty years ago, in today’s world. It also addresses key questions regarding their relationship – why was Lennon in awe of Dylan only to deride him years later? And why did Dylan keep it to himself that he "Really dug the Beatles"?

The show has been described as “a must-see for anyone who appreciates the power of music to evoke emotions, inspire reflection, and shed light on the socio-political landscape”.
Whether you’re looking for a raw and energetic acoustic performance of some great Dylan and Lennon songs or wish to appreciate a unique in-person performance of a thought-provoking concept, this show is for you.

The show is a proud holder of the coveted “Sell-out Show” Laurel awarded by Edinburgh Fringe.

🎭 Falstaff storms into the Alma Tavern & Theatre this May
Shakespeare’s most infamous knight takes centre stage in this acclaimed one‑man performance by Mike Stoneham, adapted from Robert Nye’s celebrated novel and directed by Peter Mould.

A hilarious, poignant and brilliantly human portrait of the fat, vain, boastful rogue we all think we know — with a surprising dose of real medieval history woven in. Audiences across the UK have called it “spellbinding”, “extraordinary” and “an absolute riot”.
