💬 First and foremost, we want to say a huge thank you to our communities for taking the time to have your say.

When our ‘Improving our Fire and Rescue Service’ consultation closed in January, more than a 1,000 people had taken the time to share their views.

We're so grateful to everyone who provided feedback.

You told us what matters to you – 🚒 local fire stations, 🏘️ community safety, ⏱️ response times, and our incredible firefighters who serve your towns and villages.

We’ve listened and read your feedback very carefully, and can now confirm that no fire station closures are being recommended.

Revised proposals will now be considered by Oxfordshire County Council’s Cabinet on 21 April 2026.

Your voices have helped shape what comes next. Thank you! 🤝

Last night a crew from Thame Fire Station had the fantastic opportunity to visit ASM Auto Recycling in Thame for some valuable Road Traffic Collision (RTC) training. 🚒

Using vehicles generously provided by ASM, our crew were able to get hands-on with cutting equipment in a controlled, “slow time” environment. Training like this is absolutely invaluable — supporting our new recruits as they develop confidence and competence, while also ensuring our experienced firefighters keep these critical skills sharp.

A huge thank you to the team at ASM for your continued support of your local fire station — partnerships like this help us keep our community safe. 👏 🚒

🔥 A Different Kind of Pub Visit for Thame Fire Station! 🍻🏠

When an invitation came in to visit one of our local pubs, the crew were delighted… though this visit turned out to be a little different than expected!

The Rising Sun in Ickford is currently getting a brand-new thatched roof, and the team at J. Challis Master Thatchers kindly gave our firefighters the chance to get hands-on with the process.

Our crew learned:

🌾 How a thatched roof is constructed
🪵 The materials used in traditional thatching
✂️ Techniques for safely and effectively removing thatch during a fire.

Understanding how thatch is built helps us respond quickly and efficiently if we ever need to create a fire break during a thatch fire— a crucial skill for keeping our communities safe.

A huge thank you to the talented thatching team we met, and to René, landlord of The Rising Sun, for welcoming us and letting us get involved in this fascinating piece of heritage craftsmanship.

Congratulations to FF Jamieson for passing his BA (breathing apparatus) course last week.

Breathing apparatus is a key part of skills of a firefighter - it allows us to enter irrespirable atmospheres to fight fires or perform rescues. After three pre-learning practical sessions and a raft of theorectical learning, our On-call firefighters undertake a two week intensive course. The BA initial course culminates in a series of assessed 'wears' at the residential Fire Service College at Morton In Marsh. The assessments see candidates enter buildings with real fires, heat and smoke. They test learning, skill and nerve in challenging conditions.

It's a huge achievement for any firefighter, and Pete returns to Thame now qualified to wear BA at incidents. A big plus for us as a station, and for the wider community. Congratulations Pete on all your hard work and dedication.

Pete is pictured here, centre, alongside colleagues from Eynsham, Goring and Wantage fire stations.

A massive shout-out to FF Dores for successfully passing his "Safe to Ride" assessment.

He’s now officially cleared to respond to emergencies with the Thame crew!

To celebrate, we put him straight to work in his finest yellow fashion accessory (the dry suit) to help rescue a driver stuck in a flooded car last night.
We told him the job was glamorous, but we might have mentioned the "paddling in February" part in the fine print. 🦆

We are incredibly proud to announce that FF Addis has officially completed her development programme and is now a fully competent firefighter.

Many people don’t realise that the journey doesn’t end at initial training. It takes months of dedicated "on-the-job" learning, specialized courses, and hard work to reach this status.

Well done on this amazing milestone 👩‍🚒👏

🚒🚨 CONSULTATION EXTENDED 🚨🚒

Please take the time to offer your opinion on the Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service fire cover proposals in the consultation document in the link below.

One of the proposals directly affects Thame Fire Station so please do take a look.

We’d like your feedback on proposed changes to our Fire and Rescue Service. Based on the interest shown, and because we want as wide a contribution of opinions as possible, we’ve now decided to keep this consultation open for another couple of weeks, until the end

All the crew at Thame Fire Station would like to congratulate FF Dores (middle) and FF Muszalik (fourth in from left) on completing their two week initial FF course in Didcot last week.

This is the first step on your journey to becoming a competent firefighter. Next steps, pumps and ladder drills with the crew, some on station assessments and then you’ll soon be ‘on the run’ and be given your alerters.

Congratulations both. 👏👏

Good luck to all the new recruits on your intake as they begin their life as on-call firefighters.

We would like to offer huge congratulations to FF Norgate-Barnes on passing her LGV initial driving course this week.

She’ll now spend the next six months driving both of Thame’s fire engines 🚒🚒 at normal road speed (on the way back from incidents or going along to community events) before attending an emergency response driving course later in the year.

Well done FF Norgate-Barnes 👏👏👏🚒
