Can you help Thame Fire Station? 🚒

Our crew are on the lookout for empty premises where we can practise Breathing Apparatus (BA) drills.

When it matters most, we need our skills to be as sharp as possible. While our usual training buildings are invaluable, the crews can become familiar with their layouts. Having the opportunity to train in an unfamiliar building provides a much more realistic challenge for our BA teams.

The drills would be completely dry — no water or fire involved! 🔥❌💧❌

We’re ideally looking for:

* 🏢 Commercial or residential properties
* 📍 In Thame or the surrounding villages
* 🏚️ Empty or unoccupied premises
* 🚧 Properties due to be demolished or undergoing major building works

If you know of a property that might be suitable, please comment below or send Thame Fire Station a message.

And please feel free to tag any local commercial agents, property owners, builders or developers who might be able to help.

Your empty building could provide our crew with a fantastic training opportunity — helping us to be better prepared for the day we’re needed most.

🚒 Please only call 999 in a genuine emergency

Thames Valley Fire Control Service is currently receiving a high number of 999 calls about bonfires, barbecues and other potential fire risks.

While conditions remain dry and our fire crews continue to respond to outdoor fires across Oxfordshire, we understand people may be concerned about the risk of fire.

Our responsibility is to provide fire safety advice and respond to emergencies.

Responsibility for maintaining land usually rests with the landowner, while concerns about waste, fly-tipping, environmental nuisance, derelict land or anti-social behaviour may need to be reported to the local authority, police or other agencies.

We continue to work with landowners, farmers and property managers across Oxfordshire to help reduce the risk of outdoor fires where possible.

Please call 999 immediately if:
- You discover a fire
- Smoke or flames are visible
- There is an immediate risk to life or property
- A fire is spreading or is likely to spread

Provide as much information as possible about the location to help our crews reach the incident quickly.

To help prevent outdoor fires

✅ Do not light bonfires

✅ Do not use disposable barbecues

✅ Do not set off fireworks

✅ Dispose of ci******es and other litter responsibly

Congratulations to FF Addis, FF Norgate-Barnes, FF Gurdon (Thame Fire Station ) and FF Hales-Gurl (Witney Fire Station) who competed at this weekends British Firefighter Challenge competition and won a Bronze medal for the British Women's Relay team.

Congratulation's ladies 👏👏👏 👏🥉🥉🥉🥉

The British Firefighter Challenge (BFC) is a tough annual competition designed by firefighters for firefighters, testing both physical and mental endurance while raising funds for emergency services charities.

Congratulations to FF Addis, who has recently passed her Breathing Apparatus Team Leaders course.

This is a fantastic achievement and a testament to her hard work, commitment, and dedication. BA Team Leaders undertake an enhanced Breathing Apparatus assessment, enabling them to lead a team when operating in risk areas.

A brilliant milestone and well deserved! 🚒👏

📒Have you got a plan of your farm for our use if a fire occurs?

A huge thank you to Thame Fire Brigade for coming to our aid. Twice in two days.

Agriculture is really up against it again this summer. After months of hoping for good harvesting weather, the extreme heat has brought a whole new set of challenges. It often feels like it’s either too wet or too hot.

Over the next week, many farmers will be working long hours in difficult conditions. It doesn’t take much for a fire to start. A flint striking metal, overheated brakes, dry crops, dust, bearings or machinery working hard in these temperatures can all turn into something far more serious in seconds.

We’re incredibly grateful for the professionalism, speed and support of our local firefighters. Thank you for everything you do to protect our farms, our livelihoods and our communities.

If you’re harvesting this week, stay safe, keep checking your machinery, and look out for each other.

*Public awareness and advice*

The national fire severity index today remains “very high” across all of the county and this means fires can start very easily. So we are urging you to:

- Make sure you discard ci******es responsibly, do not just 'flick' them away.
- Restrict the use of disposable BBQ's when out in the countryside go to designated areas.
- If you are camping, restrict camp fires to designated areas, or have provisions to extinguish and NEVER leave unattended.
- Put your litter in a bin, glass especially as this can magnify the sun's rays.
