Bookings are now open for Thame’s annual Senior Citizens Christmas Tea Party on Wednesday 2 December at the Thame Barns Centre!

Every year, Senior Citizens are invited to the Tea Party to celebrate the festive season. Places are limited and allocated on a first come, first served basis. To reserve your place, please either pop into the Information Centre in the Town Hall, call 01844 212 833, or email [email protected]

If you would like to volunteer for the event on the day or are able to offer transport to and from the Barns Centre, please leave your details in the Information Centre or email [email protected]

“Benny” the Benson trishaw came to visit Thame on Saturday 22nd August, for residents to see and try out, as part of the Cycling Without Age movement. Thame Mayor, Cllr Andy Gilbert, and Deputy Mayor, Cllr Andy Wainwright were given the opportunity to try out a trishaw, pedalled by Chair of SODC, Cllr Andrea Powell, and went to visit local care homes in Thame.

Cycling Without Age is a worldwide movement that aims to provide joy and vitality to older adults through the magic of the bicycle. Through the simple act of sharing a bike ride, it weaves a sense of community and gathers unique and invaluable stories, unlocked only by the wind and wheels. Trishaws typically carry two passengers, however there are also ones available that can take a wheelchair to enable wheelchair users to get out into the fresh air!

Please note the Town Hall will be closed on Monday 31 August due to the Bank Holiday. Your bins will be collected a day later next week. A reminder that, as usual, there is to be no overnight parking in the Upper High Street car park on Monday night, so that the market traders can set up on Tuesday. Thame Town Council have received notification of a Buckinghamshire Council Planning Committee Date for CM/0022/22 – Land to South East of Hornage Farm, Bicester Road, Chilton – Er****on of anaerobic digestion facility, comprising silage clamps, digester tanks, lagoons, administrative buildings, ancillary development including gas grid connection, landscaping and access. This application is outside of the parish boundary, and there are therefore limits on matters Thame Town Council can comment on but previously we have raised concern over impact on the highways.

Members of the public are welcome at all meetings. A public participation period is set aside at the start of each meeting in which the public may ask questions or make comments regarding any matter. In order to speak at a Council meeting, members of the public must apply in writing to the Town Clerk by 5pm on the day preceding the meeting. Thame Town Council have been notified that an elderly person has recently been a victim of a gardening scam. The scammer knocked on their door, offered to undertake gardening, was paid for the job and then drove off.

Scams can come in many different formats, so it’s important that you know how to spot one to stay extra vigilant. You can be scammed via the phone and cold calls, by post, email or even on your doorstep. For information on how to spot a scam, visit Age Uk’s website.

Being scammed can be very distressing, and the impact is often emotional as well as financial – it can happen to any of us. Remember, if you’ve been scammed, always contact the police on 101, or if you feel threatened or in immediate danger, call 999.

The Town Council met on Tuesday 25 August at 6.30pm in the Upper Chamber at Thame Town Hall. Residents were welcomed to attend. The full agenda and reports were made available on the Council’s website.

Representatives from the Lea Park Residents Association addressed the Council, seeking support for the speed limit reduction of Tythrop Way in the Oxfordshire County Council Speed Limit Review. Members supported reducing the speed limit to:

- 30mph on Tythrop Way (A4129)
- 40mph on the A418 between the County boundary with Buckinghamshire (near Scotsgrove) and the Thame roundabout
- 50mph on the A4129 between the County boundary with Buckinghamshire (near Kingsey) and Thame

Members agreed with the remaining responses in line with the Planning Committee’s recommendations.
