After recent discussions with Cleveland Police following our letter to them about issues across Thornaby, it was made clear that unless people report incidents to the Police they are unable to allocate the correct resources to the area and unable to form a strategy to tackle issues that have been raised with us on the doorstep.

We know that the reporting of incidents have decreased as residents do not feel they are being listened to and it is an issue that the local neighbourhood policing team are working on. We just hope a solution is found sooner rather than later.

But, we ask residents to please continue reporting incidents to the police and not on social media sites that aim to rage bait and spread rumours. Please login to Cleveland Connect, where you can report and keep up to date with local issues on your doorstep. Failing to report means we get less resources for our area.

Today we remember all those from Thornaby who lost their lives in the Dibbles Bridge Disaster on 27 May 1975.

What began as a day of friendship, community and enjoyment ended in unimaginable tragedy, leaving families heartbroken and a town in mourning. The loss felt across Thornaby was profound, and the memory of those who never returned home continues to remain in the hearts of many to this day.

We honour the lives of every person taken too soon, and we remember the courage shown by the emergency services, local communities and families in the aftermath of the disaster. Their memory stands as a lasting reminder of the strength, unity and compassion that defines our community.

Though many years have passed, those lost will never be forgotten. Thornaby remembers them with respect, dignity and love.

Lest we forget.

We have wrote to the Chief Constable of Cleveland Police Victoria Fuller about the lack of presence in the Mandale and Victoria Ward and the issues that people have been bringing up when we speak to them out on the doorstep.

We are active all year round, making sure that Thornaby gets a fairer deal from authorities.

Our local parks and play areas are the heart of our community.

We want to make sure everyone in Mandale and Victoria has access to beautiful, inclusive, and protected outdoor spaces.

Here is our plan to champion our local green areas:

1. Fight to save Mary Street Park from being decommissioned by the council.

2. Build a brand new, fully accessible SEND Playground for children with special educational needs and disabilities.

3. Invest in raised planters and communal spaces to brighten up our streets.

4. Protect and restore our parks and woodlands for everyone to enjoy.

Let's build a greener, stronger community together!

How often do you and your family use Mary Street Park? Let us know why it matters to you in the comments below!

Good quality, safe housing shouldn't be a gamble.

We want to make sure every resident in Mandale and Victoria has a safe place to call home, while supporting homeowners to improve their properties.

Here is our plan to fix local housing:

1. Implement a stricter licensing scheme for landlords. Especially for Houses of Multiple Occupancy (HMOs).

2. Increase targeted inspections to catch substandard living conditions early. The council has the power to ensure that every home is up to standard, we will work with them to ensure that homes are fit for purpose.

3. Expand the homeowner improvement loan scheme to help people upgrade their homes.

4. Hold rogue landlords fully accountable for neglecting properties and ensuring that penalties are handed out and/or court action taken. Residents deserve better.

Let's build a fairer, stronger community together!

Everyone deserves to feel safe walking down their own street.

We have a clear plan to tackle anti-social behavior and make Mandale and Victoria safer for all residents.

Here is how we plan to get it done:

1. Push for increased enforcement in known hot-spot locations.

2. Work closely with local police to crack down on anti-social behavior and holding Cleveland Police to account.

3. Invest in youth services to give young people better local opportunities and help steer them away from crime, drugs and violence.

4. Review expensive CCTV cameras to ensure we actually get value for our money. Each camera costs around £3,900 per year, are they actually delivering value for money and are Police accessing them.

Let’s build a safer, stronger community together!

Thornaby deserves to feel cared for. We’re pushing for more regular street cleaning, fly-tipping enforcement, and investment in public spaces. Pride in our town starts with the basics, cleaner, safer streets for everyone.

Deeply disappointed to see proposals from the Council to introduce fees for the appointeeship service.

This isn't just a financial issue; it is a profound moral one. The appointeeship scheme exists to protect our community’s most vulnerable individuals, people who literally cannot manage their own affairs and have no family to turn to.

Targeting an essential safety net for fee collection feels fundamentally wrong. Extracting costs from those who are completely unable to advocate for themselves compromises our collective duty of care.

A compassionate society should shield the vulnerable from administrative burdens, not view them as a source of revenue.I hope the upcoming consultation listens to residents and rejects these fees on principle.

Let’s be honest, nobody likes seeing rubbish in our streets and alleyways. We are the only party looking to clean up our town.

We’ve got a straightforward plan to tidy up Mandale and Victoria and make recycling a whole lot easier for everyone.

Here’s the breakdown of what we want to do:
1. Bring back Community Skips for easy cleanups meaning less flytipping across the ward. If we all work together, our area can be transformed for the better.

2. Lower the cost of Bulk Collection so clearing out big items doesn't break the bank. With the cost of living crisis, households are struggling to afford the price set by the council.

3.Re-open local bring sites so you don't have to travel far to recycle. Making the bring sites more local to help recycling efforts.

4.Set up street-based recycling right outside your door. Its unfair that residents need to store waste in their yards or worse still, in the alleyways which attract vermin.

5. Get rid of the outdated Black Bag Zone, its about time residents were treat with a bit of respect and humanity. Storing black bags and piling them up in alleyways is not how we instil pride back into our community.

Let’s work together to make our community cleaner and greener!

What do you think is the biggest waste issue on your street right now? Let us know in the comments!
