Day 1 of our Grand Summer Steam Gala is well underway, the sun is shining we have lots of happy smiling faces.😀

As well as the intensive railway service we have lots of family fun activities on Lakeside picnic area including classic cars, local craft stalls, bouncy castles, face painting, hot food and refreshments. Lakeside is also a great place to see our miniature traction engine parades which take place 3 times a day.🚂🍦🌞

Kingsmere station is the hive of activity for the railway and we have Trainmaster themed play, as well as the behind the scenes engine shed tour at 3:00pm.🚂🍦🌞

The best way to enjoy the event is with a Gala Rover ticket giving unlimited train rides all day and these are available to purchase from Kingsmere or Lakeside stations.🎟

We are busy making final preparations for our Grand Summer Steam Gala this weekend.

The exhibitors have started to arrive, engines cleaned, loco coal wagons full and 4 new carriages are ready to enter service.

At Kingsmere Station Trainmaster themed play are set up in the carriage shed (additional charges apply), and we have re-opened the Station View picnic area following refurbishment of the footbridge access.

Finally at Lakeside Station we have opened our new ticket and refreshment kiosk just in time for the big event.

We are open from 10:30 to 5:00pm Saturday and Sunday so with sunny weather forecast we hope to see you all this weekend.🚂🌞🍦🥤

Did you know we have a Garratt steam locomotive as part of our fleet? William Rufus was built in 1996 and is currently undergoing a major overhaul including fitting a new larger boiler.

For your chance to see the progress on the rebuild our Workshop will be open at 3:00pm this Saturday and Sunday as part of our Grand Summer Steam Gala. To take advantage of the tour you will need to purchase a Gala Rover ticket which also gives you unlimited train rides all day, a ride on the Dorset Flyer and New Forester (10:15am Sunday only), as well as entry into our Loco Challenge competition.

Our competition is now closed, we have a WINNER and it is safe to say they are really looking forward to enjoying their prize this weekend.

Just 2 more days to go until our Grand Summer Steam Gala which must mean it's time to release our locomotive roster for the weekend.

All of our 12 operational steam locomotives will be running over the weekend so the best way to enjoy the event is with a Gala Rover ticket available to purchase on the day from Kingsmere or Lakeside stations.

A Gala Rover ticket gives unlimited travel all day, plus access to our 3:00pm workshop tour, the Dorset Flyer special and on Sunday morning the New Forester double length non stop run.

Ride behind all of the locos during the day to complete our Loco Challenge and win a prize. The event runs from 10:30am to 5:00pm Saturday and 10:15am to 5:00pm Sunday.

Steam engines don't just run on coal—they run on the dedication of our volunteers! 🚂

Did you know this week is National Volunteers Week and we would like to say a big THANK YOU to all our dedicated team of volunteers that help with the running of our railway.👏

From driving our steam engines, maintaining our carriages and wagons, fixing our trackwork and signals, cleaning our engines, cutting the grass or just chopping kindling wood, they are a valued part of our team working alongside our paid staff.
