Training with Emergency Air Supply Equipment (EASE kit) 💪

The EASE kit is specifically about sharing or providing air in an emergency.

Firefighters can utilise the EASE Kit to rescue another firefighter who has run low on air due to becoming trapped or otherwise immobile during a Fire and Rescue operation or has experienced a failure in their Breathing Apparatus (BA).

This vital training comes into play during:
• Emergency/“BA emergency” scenarios
• Firefighter down drills
• Casualty extrication under air

Congratulations to FireFighter Fernandez on passing stage 3 of his Fire Appliance Driver Training today 🚒 in our National Training Centre in Cambuslang 🫡

Having passed the practical driving test and manoeuvres assessment he now begins a period of consolidated driving before undertaking his final stage - Emergency Response (Blue Light) training in June 🔥

Well done, Firefighter Fernandez 👨🏻‍🚒

Huge happy birthday to our Crew Commander Boyle 🫡

The weather ain’t great today so no doubt he’ll be spending his special day doing what he loves to do best - hunkered down in front of his computer, having an absolute blast catching up on his online learning modules 🤗

Please wish our Tommy , (driver extraordinaire and resident I.T. Expert) a very Happy Birthday, and if you see him out and about today make sure and ask him any computer related issues you’re having, it’ll make his day - he loves getting involved 🎉 💻

Massive congratulations to Firefighter Michalina Lewandowska on passing her 1st year Red Phase assessment today 💪

Passing a 1st year ‘Red Phase’ assessment is a big step, assessing the skills she’s learned over the last 12 months in Breathing Apparatus, Search and Rescue Techniques (blindfolded to represent smoked filled rooms 😱), Ladder Drills, Pump operation and Knots & Lines Work.

Passing this test means she’s demonstrated the required competence after 12 months’ supervision, and now moves into Amber Phase 🟠 for the next 12 months, then Green, before finally being signed off as fully competent after 3 years service 🚦

These assessments aren’t easy, and passing shows she’s put in the work 💪 Massive well done, and a glass of wine well deserved, Firefighter Michalina 👩🏻‍🚒 🥂

Drill night this week was the all important Ladder drills 👨🏻‍🚒 👩‍🚒

A major part of our firefighters’ role is maintaining the skills and equipment needed to rescue people from upper floors and gain access when stairwells are blocked 🔥

Teamwork is paramount and Ladder drills are an excellent way building confidence under pressure 🫡

At over 13 metres high, ladders are one of the most dangerous tools our firefighters use and these drills help build balance and confidence at heights, so that when seconds count, ladder work is automatic and our crew shows no hesitation at heights 🪜

Fire Fighters from our Tighnabruaich crew practicing hose inflation techniques last night…

The hose inflation kit is a piece of specialist rescue equipment used as part of our water rescue capability, used alongside other rescue gear like throw lines for water rescue operations.

This lets firefighters quickly inflate a fire hose with air so that the hose becomes rigid and highly buoyant. By sealing the hose at both ends and inflating it, the hose can act as a floating line or lifeline to reach a conscious casualty in water, act as a rigid rescue line that can be pushed out to someone in trouble or even be used as a dam in some water conditions.
We’re supporting 's campaign. Plan to get home safely while enjoying the festive season with friends & colleagues. , stick together, avoid walking home near any areas of water or ice.
