Set in the peaceful Wiltshire countryside beside a lake, Old Wardour Castle, near Tisbury was once one of the most daring and innovative homes in Britain. It was built in the 14th century as a lightly fortified luxury residence for comfortable living and lavish entertainment. Today the castle ruin provides a relaxed, romantic day out for couples, families and budding historians alike.

From this Sunday onwards we will be open 10am - 4pm with last entry at 3:30pm (instead of our 5pm close in the summer seasons)

After Sunday 2nd November we will open at weekends only (apart from 14th-22nd February) from 10am-4pm with last entry at 3:30pm.

Please note Old Wardour Castle will be closed from Thursday 18th September to Monday 22nd September due to a private wedding hire.

We apologise to visitors for any inconvenience, and we look forward to welcoming you back to site on Tuesday 23rd September. Some sites to visit in the meantime are Portland Castle, Farleigh Hungerford Castle and Old Sarum.

Please note Old Wardour Castle will be closed from 21 July to 22 August 2025 due to a private venue hire project.

We apologise to visitors for the disruption. In the meantime some fantastic days out can be found at the nearby sites of Old Sarum and Farleigh Hungerford Castle. We look forward to welcoming you back for the Bank Holiday weekend when hopefully the weather will look like the below!

Due to icy conditions in and around Old Wardour Castle the site will be closed today, Saturday 11th January. If you have pre-booked tickets these will be automatically refunded. We apologise for any inconvenience and we hope to see you soon!

There is currently ice on the roads to Old Wardour Castle. The weather for tomorrow, Sat 11 Jan, is forecasted to bring icy road conditions which may mean we have to close the site due to safety concerns.

If you have tickets or are planning to visit over the weekend, please check our website or page before setting off for the latest updates.
