βœ… Road reopening update – A228 Colts Hill (Maidstone Road)

A228 Colts Hill will reopen tomorrow, following South East Water’s emergency closure on Friday morning last week because of an emergency leak.

The road had to be closed because the leak caused damage under the road, making it unsafe to use.

After instructing South East Water to work longer hours and over the weekend to get this issue fixed as quickly as possible, we’re pleased to say that thanks to their effort, the road can now reopen.

The diversion will be removed once the road is back open.

Thank you to everyone for your patience, and to the crews who worked hard to get the road safely reopened.

🌟 Volunteers' Week 2026 🌟

This week is Volunteers' Week, and Paddock Wood Town Council would like to recognise and thank all those who generously give their time to support our town and community.

We would especially like to extend our gratitude to:

πŸƒ Paddock Wood Litter Pickers, who organise monthly litter picks and additional clean-up events throughout the year.

🌺 Paddock Wood Community Gardeners, who work hard to maintain the beautiful planters next to the East Car Park.

🌳 Foal Hurst Wood Nature Reserve, Paddock Wood Volunteers, who do such a fantastic job caring for and preserving our wonderful woodland.

Your dedication, enthusiasm and community spirit help make Paddock Wood a cleaner, greener and more welcoming place for everyone.

Thank you for all that you do! πŸ’š

A reminder that our summer fair is only two weeks away. We would be most grateful for any donations to our tombola/raffle. These can be dropped off at the day centre on Tuesday or Friday. Thank you so much 🌞

⚠️ If your waste is fly tipped and traced back to you, you could receive a fine of up to Β£600 - even if you didn’t dump it yourself ⚠️

Before you pay anyone to take your waste away, make sure to check that they have a Waste Carriers Licence via the Environment Agency website, ask for a Waste Transfer Note (so you know where it’s going) and jot down their vehicle registration.

These small steps offer reassurance that you’re protected from any dodgy deals πŸ˜…

If in doubt, walk away – it’s not worth the risk!

For practical tips on how you can check if a waste carrier is legit, follow the link in the comments ⬇️

πŸ”₯ Please help us protect our parks and woods πŸ”₯

Disposable BBQs and open fires can cause devastating damage to wildlife, green spaces, and public property β€” especially during dry weather. Even when they appear extinguished, they can stay dangerously hot and easily start fires or cause serious injuries.

For everyone’s safety, please do NOT use disposable BBQs or light fires in our parks, open spaces, or woodland areas.

βœ… Enjoy a picnic instead
βœ… Take litter home with you
βœ… Help keep our community safe and beautiful for everyone

Sadly, disposable BBQs have already been linked to grass fires, injuries, and costly damage in parks and countryside areas across the UK.

Thank you for helping us protect our environment and keep our public spaces safe. πŸŒ³πŸ’š

Councillors have been working hard again today in the heat, continuing preparations at St Andrews Hall in St Andrews Park to create a dedicated Youth Hub for the town.

Work is progressing well, with preparations underway for plumbing, painting, and fitting the donated kitchen. There is still plenty to do, and we would warmly welcome any volunteers who may be able to assist with painting, kitchen fitting, or helping with other improvements to the building.

If you are able to spare some time to help, please contact the office on 01892 837373 or email [email protected].

This is going to be an amazing space for the young people of the town to use, and we look forward to sharing more updates as work continues.

This is going to be an amazing space for the young people of the town to use, and we look forward to sharing more updates as work continues.

Work is progressing on transforming St Andrews Hall in St Andrews Park into a dedicated Youth Hub for our community.

Councillors have been hard at work today ripping out the old kitchen in preparation for fitting a donated second-hand kitchen.

There is still plenty more to do over the coming weeks, and any volunteers or offers of help would be very welcome.

We are hopeful that the work will be completed in time for the Youth Club to move into its new home later this year.

We look forward to sharing more updates soon!

Once again, the Estates Team from Paddock Wood Town Council have removed graffiti from one of the Hop Pickers Line information boards along the Black Path.

Unfortunately, despite previous cleaning efforts, the board had been defaced again. If anyone has any information about those responsible, please contact Paddock Wood Town Council or pass information directly to PC Geelan πŸ‘€

πŸš‚ The Hop Pickers Line Heritage Trail is a volunteer-led group with limited funds, dedicated to preserving and raising awareness of the historic railway line from Paddock Wood to Hawkhurst. Through years of fundraising and community support, the group has funded information boards, railway signage and the popular Stilt Man sculpture along the route.

These boards are an important part of protecting and sharing our local history πŸ“š They help residents and visitors learn about the heritage of the old railway line and the communities it once connected. Damaging them is not only costly to repair, but also disrespectful to the volunteers and supporters who have worked so hard to provide these features for everyone to enjoy.

πŸ“ The Hop Pickers Line Heritage Trail was established in 2008 with support from Kent County Council and representatives from the Parish Councils of Paddock Wood, Horsmonden, Goudhurst, Cranbrook and Hawkhurst. Their vision was to preserve the route and promote it for walking and cycling πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈπŸš΄

πŸ™ Please help us protect and respect this valuable part of our local heritage for future generations.
