At someone’s worst moment, on their worst day, we have a team who calmly hold people in their care, supporting them at that time of greatest need.

24 hours a day, seven days a week, our Fire Control team work quietly and efficiently helping people at the end of the phone, getting the right resources to the scene, and staying with the incident until its conclusion.

As we celebrate International Control Room Week 2025, join us to say thank you to our Fire Control team, our unsung heroes, they are amazing – we hope you never need to know how good they are at what they do.

We are pleased to announce that the new date for our Service Open Day at our headquarters near Exeter is Sunday, 5 October!

The event is open to everyone and promises a day of family-friendly fun, live demonstrations, and an inside look at the work of a fire and rescue service.

The day is also a valuable opportunity to learn more about fire safety and prevention, where you can speak directly with firefighters and prevention officers, and discover practical ways to stay safe at home, on the road, and in the great outdoors.

We will also be raising money for Fire Fighters Charity, which supports serving and retired members of the UK fire services and their families.

Regrettably the Open Day has been postponed

Due to the heavy rainfall of the past week and with more expected, we’ve taken the difficult decision to postpone our Service Open Day, which was scheduled for this Sunday, 7 September.

Nicola Bottomley, Area Manager for Prevention, Protection and Risk - “Unfortunately, due to all the wet weather, we are unable to guarantee that the field that was going to be used on Sunday will be suitable for parking. This means we simply cannot accommodate the volume of people expected at the Open Day, and so we have had to take the difficult decision to postpone. We’re really sorry for any disappointment.

“We were all looking forward to seeing so many of you on Sunday, but our priority will always be keeping people safe. We’re planning to reschedule for next month and will share the date once it’s confirmed.”

Our crew from Exeter Danes Castle Fire Station, alongside our Prevention Team and boating crew, will be at Exeter Quay all day offering lifesaving water safety advice to the people of Exeter. We'll also be giving live water safety demonstrations.

Whether you're out for some fresh air, walking the dog, or having a jog - come and have a chat. It could save a life 👟🐶💬
