On 1st June 2026, Mountbatten Division welcomed the first Officer Cadets to undertake their Initial Naval Training at HMS Raleigh, a milestone moment in Royal Navy training history.

Their arrival marked the start of a new chapter, bringing future leaders into an environment already renowned for shaping resilient, skilled sailors. From day one these cadets will demonstrate the commitment, discipline and leadership that will define the next generation of Naval officers.

🚗⚡️ 750 Miles. 24 Hours. One Powerful Purpose. ⚡️🚗

In the coming weeks, a determined group of friends will attempt an incredible world record – travelling on every vehicle chain link ferry in the UK in just 24 hours, covering an epic 750 miles… all in an electric car.

This isn’t just a test of endurance, planning, and teamwork – it’s a deeply personal mission. 💙

The challenge is in memory of their friend Dan Demissie, raising vital funds and awareness for the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), a charity working tirelessly to prevent su***de and support those struggling.

Their journey will pass several key Naval establishments – Portsmouth, Dartmouth, Devonport, and right here at HMS Raleigh. And if there’s one thing we know at Raleigh… it’s how to rise to a challenge. 💪

So tomorrow, we kick off our own 750-minute circuit event to get behind this powerful cause:
🕐 12.5 hours
🔁 5 stances
🎯 One mission

We’ll be raising awareness, supporting the team on their record attempt, and standing together in support of CALM.
Let’s get behind them, show our support, and keep the conversation going. Every mile matters. Every voice counts.

On Friday 29th May, HMS Raleigh was privileged to welcome back Captain J H D Ussher Royal Navy, who is the outgoing Commanding Officer of HMS Raleigh following promotion to Commodore, for the Passing Out Parade of the latest cohort of Royal Navy recruits, Fisher 25/38 and Royal Navy Reserves Tisdall 26/01.

This significant occasion represents the culmination of weeks of rigorous instruction, discipline, and commitment, as these individuals transition from civilian life to becoming fully-fledged members of the Service.

A particular highlight of the day was Captain Ussher awarding the recruits of Fisher 25/38 and Tisdall 26/01 their Royal Navy epaulettes, marking the successful completion of their Initial Naval Training.

The afternoon culminated in the Passing Out Parade, a fitting end to a memorable visit. During the parade Captain Ussher presented three distinguished awards:

• The Captain’s prize and medal, awarded to the best overall recruit during Phase One Training, was presented to Warfare Specialist (Abovewater Warfare Weapons) Bartholomew.
• The Ganges Trophy, which was fought for over the last 10 weeks by our two passing out classes and was awarded to the class obtaining the best overall marks during their phase one course. Last week the Ganges trophy was awarded to Starboard Class and collected on their behalf by Class Leader Cryptological Technician Lewry
• The Reservists Cup, which is awarded to the best overall trainee during Royal Navy Reserves new entry training, was awarded to Able Seaman Matthews of HMS Flying Fox.

Families and friends gathered to witness the parade, sharing in the pride and tradition that underpin naval service.

HMS Raleigh is the cornerstone of Royal Navy training, shaping civilians into skilled, disciplined sailors who embody the Navy’s ethos and serve with pride to protect the nation.

Over the coming days, we’ll be shining a spotlight on our nominees, today it’s the turn of AB Bell, nominated in the Community Impact Leadership category. In a strongly contested category, AB Bell proudly collected the Runner Up spot.

AB Bell played a pivotal role in rebuilding trust and dignity for LGBTQ+ veterans, and their work has had a deeply personal and lasting impact on those affected by historic injustice.

They played a central role in designing and delivering restorative engagement, personally co-ordinating veteran visits, and supporting individuals returning for the first time with careful preparation.

Through their leadership, they created safe spaces for dialogue, had veterans’ stories formally recognised and helped re-establish a sense of belonging in the service.

Bravo Zulu, AB Bell; we’re proud of you. 👏
