🚨 Section 35 Dispersal Order - Torquay Town Centre 🚨

A further Section 35 Dispersal Order is in place in Torquay Town Centre following reports of anti social behaviour (ASB), with multiple youths being dispersed from the area and one individual being arrested due to not complying with the Section 35 Dispersal Order.

Over the last week uniformed and non-uniformed officers have been in the area monitoring the situation and dealing with those causing ASB which has been impacting businesses, residents and visitors.

Those found to be causing issues in our town will be dealt with robustly, utilising the powers we have available.

With half term coming up, please don't be the reason that a Section 35 Dispersal Order gets put in place.

Warning 💊 | Dangerous fake weight loss drugs and other medicines

Tempting as it may be to save money, using fake online pharmacies puts you at risk of serious harm – check that any pharmacy you use is legitimate at the link at the end of this post.

The Torquay Neighbourhood team have conducted various arrests over this week targeting different areas where individuals cause harm in local communities - details of this are below - this work was conducted around usual neighbourhood taskings of visibility and progressing workloads

We also have hotspot policing support from tonight and the town centre team are predominantly on lates over the weekend to continue to tackle the youth ASB issue around Fleet Street. Please speak to the team if you see us out for any new information or concerns that you have witnessed.

Wednesday 14th
▶️ One male was sought locally in relation to a high risk domestic offence, he was located and arrested.
▶️Another male was sought for an emergency prison recall, he was located, arrested and returned to prison.

Tuesday 13th
▶️In the morning we conducted a misuse of drugs act warrant after concerns of drug related activity was taking place around the Torre area - this yielded a positive result which will assist with future disruptive activity.
▶️Later in the day the team completed numerous arrest attempts for individuals wanted for failing to appear warrants, this resulted in 3 further people being arrested for these warrants.

Monday 12th
▶️We conducted another misuse of drugs act warrant in the Babbacombe ward area which led to a quantity of suspected controlled substances being located.
▶️The team also arrested 2 prolific shoplifters the previous night, enquiries were completed as both suspects had been charged and remanded to court for that day.

🚨 Section 35 Dispersal Order - Torquay Town Centre 🚨

We have seen a significant increase in anti-social behaviour involving groups of young people in Torquay town centre, particularly around Fleet Walk.

This is not 'kids being kids' the behaviour is unacceptable and is having a negative impact on local businesses, visitors and members of our community.

As a result, a Section 35 Dispersal Order is currently in place for the next 48 hours. Breaching a dispersal order is a criminal offence and we will seek to arrest anyone who has hasn't adhered to being dispersed.

Officers have already dispersed two youths from the area this evening and seized an electric motorcycle being used in connection with anti-social behaviour.

We want to be clear: we will continue to use the powers available to us to deal robustly with those causing disruption and distress in our town centre.

Parents and guardians also have a responsibility to know where their children are, what they are doing, and to work with us in addressing this behaviour before it escalates further.

🚔🚑 Recent social media posts showing emergency services in Torquay town centre today (Wednesday 30th of September) have attracted a number of negative and speculative comments.

The reality is that emergency crews were responding to a person requiring urgent medical assistance.

We would encourage everyone to think before they post. Images and short video clips rarely show the full circumstances, and insensitive comments can cause unnecessary distress to those affected.

We know one of the comments we sometimes hear is that people don't often see police officers on foot in the town centre.

The Town Centre team regularly patrol both the Castle Circus area as well as the lower end of town, and we now have the ability to share this information via the attached picture - this was from a patrol completed yesterday afternoon into the evening.

We are aware of increased recent reports of youth anti-social behaviour around the Fleet Walk area and have spent time in the late afternoon and early evening responding to this, we have also identified a number of those responsible and will be taking this forward. This includes recent damage to one of the flower stands in the area that was highlighted on social media.

While much of policing happens behind the scenes, our officers continue to spend time out in the areas that matter most to local people. If you see us out and about, please stop and say hello.

Joint statement from Torquay Neighbourhood & ARC marine |

Police in Torquay are working with ARC marine to tackle problems after a number of incidents at the Beacon Quay site led to damage, trespass and even arson.

Officers have received reports of individuals putting themselves and others at risk by trying to break into the site and are keen to reiterate that the site is not derelict.

The local neighbourhood team has stepped up patrols to identify those responsible and take positive action to deter offenders, as well as taking robust measures if offences are committed.

Torquay Neighbourhood Inspector Rob Harvey explained: “There is a misconception amongst some that this site has been abandoned and is there to be explored; that is simply not the case. The former Living Coasts site remains privately occupied and unauthorised entry is trespass which can quickly lead to criminal offences such as burglary, criminal damage or arson. “We will continue to work with ARC marine and our partners to identify those responsible and keep the community safe. “My message is straightforward: stay out of the site, do not encourage others to enter, and think carefully before following social media trends that could put you in danger or leave you with a criminal record."

They are also asking parents and guardians to speak with their children about the dangers of entering restricted sites and the consequences of becoming involved in criminal activity. Sites may contain a range of hazards that could result in serious injury. The company has also removed roof netting (which some trespassers were climbing on), improved signage and CCTV measures

Eunice Godinho, Facilities Manager at ARC marine, added: “We completely understand why the former Living Coasts site attracts curiosity, but what we are experiencing goes far beyond harmless curiosity. “The site is not abandoned; it is an active workplace with staff here every day. We are dealing with repeated attempts to force entry, along with criminal damage and deliberate fires.

“We’re asking people to respect the site, stay out and not encourage others to enter for the sake of social media content. We’re very grateful for the support of the local community and Devon & Cornwall Police in helping us keep everyone safe.”

Good morning Torquay,

Our colleagues on patrol are investigating a burglary to a building at Torquay Cemetery that occurred between 1700hrs on Friday 28th August and 0700hrs on Tuesday 1st September.

Thousands of pounds of machinery has been stolen including various Stihl products, namely, six strimmer's, a polesaw, backpack blower, an extendable hedge trimmer as well as Dewalt drill pieces and other horticultural machinery.

These items do have serial numbers and we would ask any residents or businesses to be mindful if they are offered these items for sale.
