🎬 A little thank you to the people who helped make our Derek vs Derek screening happen... we've been feeling very lucky to have such a brilliant bunch of people around us!

Our new Nature Recovery trainees deserve a special mention for throwing themselves straight into transforming the working barn into a cosy cinema at the end of their very first week with us. Thanks guys, you did a brilliant job!! 💚

🎬 A huge thank you to everyone who joined us last Friday for our screening of Derek vs Derek with 99p Films - Social Cinema.

We’re grateful to our brilliant panel: Nick from Devon Wildlife Trust , Harriet from Riverford, Seb and James - for sharing their thoughts and bringing a range of perspectives to the conversation. And thanks to our lovely audience for all their insightful and interesting questions that made the conversation after the film so rich.

And a huge thanks to all the team at 99p Films for bringing the film to the farm and making the evening happen! We’re already looking forward to the next screening (Whispers in the Woods, 9th April 2027).

If you missed it, Derek vs Derek is well worth watching. Funny, thought-provoking and full of big questions about farming, rewilding and what we want the future of the countryside to look like. Give 99p Films a follow to see what they’re showing next, and keep an eye out for the upcoming screenings at the brilliant TotnesCinema .

The Carlin pea taste test!! 🫛

At the end of summer the carlin peas were as harvested, counted, depodded and weighed with the help of our garden volunteers. Then came the fun part - a taste test in the garden with our friends from United Response, and our garden volunteers who helped plant these magnificent beans.

We love them cooked in a traditional way with some salt and vinegar, and they make delicious hummus too! We look forward to growing and eating more Carlin Peas and hope to see their popularity grow too - spread the word.

Keep an eye out for our November Breaking Bread Feast (more on this later in the week) which will be a celebration of UK grown pulses. Come and try a carlin pea for yourself! 🫘

🫛 This year we grew our own CARLIN PEAS! 🫛

Earlier this year, Jaya went along to the ORFC - Oxford Real Farming Conference and heard about the benefits of growing more UK-grown pulses. It got us thinking about what we could grow here at the farm, and when the opportunity came up to take part in a Carlin pea growing trial with Garden Organic, we were keen to give it a go! 🫘

We already love Hodmedod's tinned Carlin peas in our kitchen here, so why not try growing our own we thought?

Carlin peas are well adapted to growing in the UK, and back in May our garden volunteers helped plant them out. Then came the patient bit… waiting for their pretty pink and purple flowers to blossom, followed by the peas drying fully on the plants before they were ready to harvest.

Stay tuned for our video tomorrow showing the all-important taste test! 🫛

🌳 Nature Recovery Residences 2027: WHO’S IT FOR?

You don’t need a long list of qualifications or years of experience in the sector - what we’re looking for is commitment to working for nature, enthusiasm, curiosity and a willingness to get stuck into all aspects of life at our farm. We’re a small team, so we work closely together and everyone needs to be adaptable and flexible, and happy to get involved in a wide range of work and be outside in all weathers! 🌦️

🌿 The residency could suit someone starting out after uni, changing direction in their career, or looking to build practical experience before their next step.

If that sounds like you, find out more and apply via the link in our bio.
