Join The Lord Chamberlain’s Men this summer for Othello, one of the most captivating and thrilling plays ever written. See it performed how William Shakespeare first saw it, as The Lord Chamberlain’s Men – with a history stretching back to Shakespeare’s original company – present this play in the open air, with an all male cast and Elizabethan costumes, music and dance.

This week is and we wanted to highlight some of our volunteers who donate their time to Dartington and the Elmhirst Heritage Centre.
Graham Waites is an Elmhirst Heritage Centre volunteer tour guide, and he has this to share about his experience of volunteering at Dartington.
"Each time I step through the doors of the EHC I feel I am supporting causes I care deeply about, the importance of our history and our cultural heritage, safeguarding the past to enrich all our futures. Through the lives and vision of Dorothy and Leonard Elmhirst, The EHC tells us a unique story about the power and potential of creativity and imagination in the arts and crafts, in social democracy and individual fulfilment, in progressive education, in rural regeneration and it is a privilege to be able to share the story of Dartington and the Elmhirsts with the diverse people who visit the Elmhirst Centre. Our visitors always comment on how strongly they engage with the extraordinary 1960’s reconstruction of the Elmhirsts family apartments and the wonderful collection of paintings and photographs, artefacts and ceramics, furniture and décor and it is so rewarding to be part of this interaction. And to be part of a group of such highly committed volunteers led by a hugely talented Heritage team within this unique setting adds to my wish to make an active contribution to this essential project."

This week is and we wanted to highlight some of our volunteers who donate their time to Dartington and the Elmhirst Heritage Centre.
Matt White is a garden and Elmhirst Heritage Centre volunteer tour guide, and he has this to share about his experience of volunteering at Dartington.
“Returning to the area after many years roaming abroad, Dartington refreshed and reassured me, offering its quiet depth of time and place. Still today the Hall and surrounding land alter the idea of a humdrum world beyond, and can free the imagination. The Modernist medieval court that the Elmhirsts inspired in the interwar years had incredible reach and influence, and the tales that started - both then and long before - are still unwinding, exploring themselves. Who wouldn't want to help Dartington and The Elmhirst Heritage Centre tell these stories through volunteering, Tour Guiding, which I help with on a weekly basis.”
If you would like to become a volunteer with the Elmhirst Heritage Centre, please email [email protected]

Just a reminder that, further to our announcements on 2 March and earlier this month, we are excited to share that the BBC Antiques Roadshow will be filming at Dartington Estate this Sunday 31 May 2026 and that the Dartington Estate will operate differently on this day.

Strictly ticketed: the filming areas located in the Courtyard, Private Garden, Great Hall and Great Lawn are open only to those who have secured tickets in advance. The BBC balloted the tickets and we understand that successful applicants have already been notified.

No tickets on the day: please be aware that there are no tickets available on the day. To avoid disappointment and help us manage site capacity, we kindly ask that those who do not have a BBC ticket to avoid visiting the Estate on Sunday 31 May.

The Barn Cinema, White Hart pub and Elmhirst Heritage Centre will be closed. However, the Cider Press Centre, the Green Table Cafe, the Montreal Style Bagel Cafe and the Garden Cafe will operate as normal.

Parking: onsite car parks will be reserved for ticket holders attending the Antiques Roadshow event and these car parks will be managed by the BBC event team.

Parking for non-ticket holders will be limited and not guaranteed, however the wider Estate (outside of the filming areas mentioned above) will be open to walkers.

Normal service: We look forward to welcoming you back on Monday 1 June, when the site returns to normal.

Thank you for your understanding.
