🍏 Gratitude for the First Summer Fruits 🍑

August has brought some of the warmest and driest spells in decades across the Northern Hemisphere. Yet despite the drought, our lands still begin yielding early crops like grains, apples and berries even if in lower quantities. This is a season for gratitude - for the nutrients of the soil, vitally life-giving water, the power of the sun and all of the hands that tend and cultivate our food. The ancient Celtic festival of Lammas, celebrated August 1st, honours these first fruits of the earth and the cycle of life, death and rebirth.

This month's newsletter is a feast of opportunities, inspiration and wellbeing delights. Including stories of rewilding preventing wildfires, wise words from the World Happiness Summit 2026, ways you can get involved with your local River Trust and news on our new website! Plus podcasts, events and resources to sustain you through these long summer days.

We have been awarded a grant from Devon Communities Together to co-design a version of our Tree Treasure Trail in partnership with people with additional needs and autism. We'll be working with Safe Breaks CIC and some of their service users to create a trail that is more inclusive.

One of my first mananagement roles many many moons ago was with Sense, working with deaf/blind adults with complex needs. None of our service users could speak. I learned more about communication from them than in any job since.

This is will be my first co-design project - it is very exciting.

Thanks to Devon Communities Together for making it possible - and to Safebreaks Devon CIC for being open to working and playing together. Hurrah!

Join us and with ! 💚

We all have the power to make someone’s day a little brighter. A smile, a thoughtful message, a helping hand or a moment of real listening can make a much bigger difference than we realise. And caring for others is good for us too.

This Altruistic August calendar is full of small daily actions to help you bring more kindness into the world. Please share it.

📣 GOOD NEWS: The Government has announced funding and more details on its plan to protect 30% of England’s land by 2030, including £40m investment to restore national parks and landscapes 🌱

The investment will support all 10 National Parks and 34 National Landscapes to restore nature and protect wildlife.

Additional plans include the creation of three new national forests, as well as a new Youth Climate and Nature Panel, giving young people a voice in future climate and nature policy.

The aim is to help restore nature, tackle climate change and create a more resilient environment for future generations, and we’re delighted to see more investment into nature restoration 👏

⭐️ RADICAL LOVE: Life and Legacy of Satish Kumar ⭐️

Some films tell a story.
Others quietly remind us how it is possible to live.

Winner of the Legacy Award at Ray of Light Awards 2026, 'Radical Love' is an intimate portrait of Satish Kumar (Co-founder & Patron of Network of Wellbeing & Founder of the ) - peace pilgrim, environmental thinker and lifelong advocate for compassionate living. Following one of the world’s most influential voices in ecology and spirituality, the film explores a life dedicated to the belief that lasting change begins within ourselves.

Beautifully directed by Julio Hey, 'Radical Love' is less a biography than an invitation. Through moments of reflection, wisdom and quiet humanity, it asks us to reconsider our relationship with nature, with one another and with the future we are creating together.

The film was presented as a special screening during 2026, before Satish Kumar accepted the Legacy Award in person during the Grand Gala Finale.

Huge congratulations to Julio Hey , Satish Kumar .kumar.foundation and the entire team behind this remarkable film.

Presented as part of the official programme of Fantasia Ibiza Festival 2026.
