This is the most outrageous waste of taxpayer money in Basingstoke and across Hampshire.

The money spent on this challenge could and should be spent on supporting children with special education needs, supporting the elderly and disabled in need of social care or fixing basic things like filling potholes.

The proposal for a North Hampshire authority has broad support among community groups, charities, business, political leaders and the public. Hampshire County Council should abandon this colossal waste of taxpayer money.

I will always proudly celebrate the strength and diversity that successive generations of immigrants have brought to our city.

But we can't deny that many people hold genuine and legitimate concerns about the state of our immigration system, with worries that levels are persistently high, not well controlled, and not always fair.

Rather than gimmicks or quick fixes, this government is getting on with proper grown-up solutions. And it's working. Today's official statistics show that net migration is now at 171,000, down from a high of 944,000 under the Conservatives.

I stood for election on a manifesto that promised to control and reduce net migration. And that's what we're doing.

Clear on the doorstep today that people want to talk about the issues that matter in the communities they live in.

In Golden Grove, that meant real conversations about the difference Labour in local government is making from new play equipment for families, to proposals for CCTV to help deter crime, to the rollout of food waste recycling.

These are the practical, visible changes Labour councils deliver to improve neighbourhoods, keep communities safe, and make places better to live.

With an election this Thursday, the choice is clear: this is about what your local council delivers for your community not the noise coming out of other parties with no local knowledge, which is why they only talk about national politics.
