A lot of people are worried about AI turning up in social work, and that is a reasonable thing to be worried about.

So here is our position in plain terms.

AI in Pebble helps with the writing. Drafting, structure, transcribing, tidying. It is there to take on the bit of the job that eats your evening.

It does not decide anything. It does not tell you whether a child is at risk, it does not set a threshold, and it does not know a family better than you do. It could not, and it should not be allowed to try.

You write it, you check it, you decide. That does not change, and we are not going to quietly move that line later when nobody is looking.

If you have a question about it, ask below. We would much rather answer it than have you wondering.

The visit is not what takes the time. Writing it out again is.

The case note. The chronology. The report. The form.

Pebble is built on one idea: a thing should exist once, and everything else should point at it. This is a short film following one sentence, written up after a home visit, and everywhere that sentence ends up.

Write it once. It goes where it is needed.

If you have been meaning to try the app and never got round to it, this is your reminder.

It is free. You do not need your manager's permission, an IT ticket or a training session. It takes about two minutes and you can have a look at it on the sofa this evening.

If it is not for you, delete it. Nobody will chase you.

But if you are one of the people still writing notes at half ten, it is worth ten minutes to find out whether it helps.

If you are reading this while putting off your case notes, this one is for you.

You are not behind because you are disorganised. You are behind because the day had visits, calls, a duty referral that was never in the diary and two conversations that mattered more than the diary did.

When recording slips across a team, the usual answer is more guidance, another audit or a new template. None of that creates time.

There is a real difference between asking someone to do better work and giving them the room to do it.

Out of interest, what would you actually do with an extra hour back in your week? Genuinely curious what people would spend it on.

People sometimes assume I left social work to build this. I did not.

I am still a team manager in children's services. Pebble gets built around that, entirely in my own time. Evenings, weekends, annual leave, and a fair amount of time I should probably have spent asleep.

It means everything takes longer than it would if I did this full time. It also means the app is built by someone having the same kind of week you are.

Every part of it started as something that frustrated me or a colleague in the ordinary run of the job. Not because it looked good in a demo.

So tell me honestly. What is the one part of your week that takes far longer than it should? Not the part that is hard because the work is hard. The part that is hard because of the process wrapped around it.

I read every one of these and they genuinely change what gets built next.

Bank holiday Monday, and most of you go back tomorrow to a short week and a full diary.
Before that starts, something on why any of this matters.
A visit. A conversation. A record written properly. None of it feels like much on the day you do it. All of it changes what happens next, for a child who will never know it happened.
That is the job. Everything else should be there to support it.
Enjoy what is left of the long weekend.

What started as an app is growing into a wider platform for social work.

Pebble brings practical support for recording, referrals, direct work, learning and reflection into one place.

And as the platform develops, it will connect mobile and desktop tools for more complex work, including meeting records, chronologies, genograms and life-story work.

It is not designed to replace existing systems or make professional decisions.

It is there to reduce fragmented admin and provide better support around the work practitioners already do.

The Social Work Way becoming Pebble reflects that growth.

A new name for a platform built around real practice.

Social Work First.

The Social Work Way is becoming Pebble.
The name is changing, and the platform is growing.
But the reason behind it remains the same.
Pebble is still being built around the reality of social work. The visits, conversations, recording, reflection and responsibility that make up the working day.
It will continue to support practice without trying to replace the judgement, experience or relationships at the centre of it.
The platform may be changing.
Our commitment to putting social work first is not.

Recording often becomes the work that follows the work.

After a meeting, supervision or important conversation, practitioners still need to organise what was said and turn it into a clear professional record.

Pebble Capture has been built to help with that process.

It can record and transcribe conversations, help separate speakers and support the drafting of professional records.

But the practitioner remains in control.

You review the transcript. You edit the draft. You decide what belongs in the final record.

Technology supports the recording process.

Professional judgement stays with the social worker.

Follow Pebble as we continue to develop and test Capture with social work practice at the centre.

Pebble was the name we used for our daughter before she was born.
It was never going to be her actual name. It was simply what we called her while we waited to meet her.
But the name stayed with me.
And as the platform grew, it began to feel right for another reason.
In social work and safeguarding, small actions matter. A conversation, a visit, a well-written record or a timely referral can contribute to something much wider.
That is where Pebble comes from.
A personal name that now represents the purpose behind everything we are building.
Small actions create wider impact.
